I just had a roofer out today and now have the timberline samples. Charcoal is what i would choose for brick with black. My house is beige so I have to decide also. Maybe I will post a pic sometime and ask too. I am finding such variations in quotes. Today's contractor was a master certified, so I assume his will be highest and most detailed. I should get figures tomorrow. It is really hard to choose when they are all installing the same product at such varied prices. Has anybody gotten estimates from "master certified" and regular guys and were they much different?

I have the camelots on my house (maybe a 600K house? who knows with the dive in housing prices lately?) and I really like them. I was never told that they were too high-end for my house. Around here, it's all over the map what goes where - some million dollar houses have regular old architectural shingles while others have real slate or cedar ($$$$). You should just get what you like. Your roofer probably just doesn't want to deal with the camelots because they're heavy. I can't imagine they're any different to lay than regular shingles - they are just asphalt, after all - but they are wicked heavy. After lugging bundle after bundle up to the top of my roof, my roofers were probably ready to kill me. You will want to make sure your existing roof framing can handle the extra weight, especially if you live in an area with potential heavy snowfall. My guess (and this is only a guess and of course, may vary depending on your location) is that if your roofer is still recommending regular 3-tab shingles, he must be a pretty low-end roofer. We've reroofed our last 2 houses and gotten estimates from a ton of roofers for both jobs and not one has even considered 3-tabs. They just aren't done here anymore - the architecturals (even the lower end ones) just look so much better and last better too, because they're thicker. So at the very least, I would go with architectural (we put Timberline 30s on our last house and they looked great) but if you like the camelot and you can afford it and you don't have anything else you'd rather do with the money, then go for it. I doubt you'll see $4500 more when it's time to sell your house because you have an upgraded roof, though, so just be aware that you're doing it to please yourself and not to recover any money in the end. I am leaning towards CertainTeed landmark pro Charcoal black because it is grayer it’s softer than miore black although it will look black in the shade and clouds. Miore black has a lot more variation than what I am looking for. This has been a tough one for me as well. I called Certainteed they gave me a bunch of phone numbers of companies who have used Certainteed charcoal and miore Black on residential roofs to get addresses in my area. I drive around to look at these which helped a lot!! They are close in color but the moire black just seems to much in darkness and variation. Charcoal black just enough variation and softer... CertainTeed customer service agrees. I had the higher end Timberline charcoal as 2nd in line. I like it but I am looking for the best quality and I feel I’m getting that with CertainTeed landmark Pro. BTY THE COLORS BETWEEN LANDMARK AND LANDMARK PRO ARE VERY DIFFERENT! So when you read everyone’s comment make sure they are talking about Pro or Regular Landmark. I dodged a bullet after figuring that out!!

Raee- the roof is tough. The visualizer i'm using allows me to put different colors of roof up there, and whenever I try something lighter, it feels washed out against the brick, just my proclivity I think. We started with black/charcoal, but playing with the warmer grey tones is making one of the multitonal black/brown roofs make more sense, so we might go that route. Getting the roof right is definitely the #1 priority as we'll be repainting every once in awhile anyway, but this new roof had better be up there for quite awhile! I tried urbane bronze in the visualizer, but it feels a bit dark for the siding- might be a good trim color against a lighter warm grey if we go the dark trim route- I'm still torn there as well.
