I don't think hulu works like that, I think it just like netflix only they have some different things netflix doesn't but you might read about hulu plus and see, I don't subscribe to it. You might check if verizon has something online to watch channels live. We have time warner, have the digital box package but only have a box on the living room TV. I can log in to time warner online upstairs on the laptop and watch certain box channels on the computer live when they are airing so maybe verizon does something like that. I like that because there are a few channels I don't get on the TV upstiars since it just has basic cable so I can now watch my lizard lick towing up there. Something time warner started a few months ago. There are also apps for some channels like HBO has HBO2go but it's not a live app and you do need to subscribe to HBO through your provider to use it. I use it on my tablet and like it. Showtime has an app but time warner is not on the list so I can't use it but again you need to be subscribed to that through your provider to use the app. True TV has an app but again time warner is not on the list for me but that is one of the channels I can watch live on the laptop but verizon is on the list for all of those apps. They are not live TV though but they have a good variety of stuff that aired on those channels you can watch. Mary

I'm biting the bullet and looking for a new receiver with at least six HDMI 'ports'. I don't think we will be 'streaming' anything unless the offerings improve for our 'demographic'. LOL Today AT&T emailed me, touting their "U-Verse" -- which sounds like it would replace the DirecTV HD-DVR they already provide us, bundled with landline and internet. The promo seems aimed at people who need 24/7 'connectivity' via hand helds...or music. I doubt they have any wider selection movies on offer than what I saw on Amazon and Netflix. Any DVD's we get from the library that are longer than a movie have two-week check-outs. We're in town a couple times a week anyway, so detouring a block to the library is easy. We still sometimes check out 'real' books, too. LOL

I'm going to move on, but not before saying that again, you've not understood the advice given. The suggestion by me and others didn't ask you if other devices had ever been connected in the past. The step was - connect one now. That's what you're trying to do with the disk player and it isn't working. So, try a different device. If it works, the problem focuses on the disk player. If it doesn't, then maybe it's the router. You've also not said if you've contacted Sony tech support. With that, i find there's nothing more to say or do to help you. Maybe you need to find a friend or family member to help you in person (and to read the suggestions you've received).

Olychick you can have a Roku TV (not a Roku stick). It is an interface sort of like an operating system similar to Windows/Apple for the TV as well as has streaming apps. It is an easy to use TV and available for good deals from both TCL and HiSense. Even if you can't stream now - We used to have the same speeds until we got Fiber recently. We were able to stream at times when the internet usage around us was low then having the TV to just be able to do it is helpful and you don't need the computer. Sometimes it would stop to buffer, but we were still able to watch albeit with a lesser quality picture and we'd be at less than 1Mbit/s 100% of the time. Actually you'll probably find that the TV might be better at playing your streaming content than your computer as it will use less bandwidth and adjust better most likely unless you use a specific app on your computer and then they should be equivalent if up the app is up to date. A Roku TV from HiSense or TCL for example will also plug in to the cable box and any other equipment you may wish to connect such as a DVD player. HDMI ports are good for this, but you will also be able to connect with regular old cables too. You could also just go and buy a digital antenna and pick up the regular broadcast channels as well. I believe the Roku TV's supports showing a TV guide and both HiSense and TCL allows you to use a USB stick to plug into the TV and record live TV onto it for a limited amount of time, but it allows it to work as a small DVR for broadcast TV.
