I'd ignore the router's firewall setting as per the image you've posted, it's very unlikely to be involved with your problem. I suggest a two step solution:

First, we need to see if the wifi signal as is is "connectable to". Have you or anyone else ever connected a new device to your wifi signal? A tablet/ipad, a smartphone, a laptop, anything? That usually involves just selecting the desired Wifi signal on the device (which you say is visible) and then a message will appear asking to enter the password. Nothing more is required. All the items you were looking at in "advance settings" should be unnecessary to be concerned with.

Do you have the password? Is there a password on the signal? If you haven't done a new connect, get a friend with one of these devices to come over and connect it to your wifi signal. Move it to where the disk player is located. Is the signal at least half maximum strength? If not, you need to move either the DVD or the router.

Second step, once the first step is done - call Sony Tech Support. All device manufacturers offer free tech support for installation. Having proven (with a simple device) that your wifi signal can be connected to, the task is to simply connect the disk player to it. It's a one time job, no need develop expertise with that device.

Last suggestion - anytime one has problems with a new device, after 30 minutes of struggling, stop and get outside help. Get it however and wherever you can. It's pointless, unnecessary, and rarely useful to continue hitting your head against a wall when your efforts are unsuccessful.

Couple of thoughts:

Remember that password is not the same as PASSWORD. All you should need is the name of your network and the password, no DNS, IP addressses, etc.

Turn off security for your router temporarily and see if you can can connect the player. If so, there's a setting amiss somewhere, if not the player may be defective.

I have a cable company router for TV and Internet access; I have a Netgear router for my home wireless network. That is because the cable router is proprietary for lack of a better word and could not be used for my home network unless I wanted to pay an additional $60 each month for that service. I chose to purchase my own router and go that way since it was much more inexpensive to do that.

Yes, I have run another computer on the same wifi signal for years.

The signal is strong which shows after the bluray scans for a signal.

The bluray is 'supposed' to connect in the same way as a computer.

It scans for signals and then displays all the signals that it sees.

It shows my routers signal and home network.

When I click on that, I get a pop up that asks for my password.
After putting in my password (all lower case) the bluray works on trying to connect for a minute or two and then the "failed to make a connection" pops up!

that sounds like a bad password. Do you have a smart phone or tablet that you can remove your connection from and re-establish to confirm that you have the correct password?

Have used the same password for years.

Several people now (me and pk) have suggested you try connecting a different NEW device. There was a reason for that suggestion.

Have you done that? Did it connect?

If asking for a password and you give it the right password and doesn't connect, sounds like the Security Mode is set wrong in the BlueRay.

I would be looking in the wireless router and see what its set.. then look in the BlueRay and match all the security settings manually.

Most current things are WPA2 with PSK and AES256 encryption.

I'm about to throw in the towel and just use the player for disks.

I was hoping to stream netflix or hulu through the thing but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. 8(

I'm going to move on, but not before saying that again, you've not understood the advice given.

The suggestion by me and others didn't ask you if other devices had ever been connected in the past. The step was - connect one now. That's what you're trying to do with the disk player and it isn't working. So, try a different device. If it works, the problem focuses on the disk player. If it doesn't, then maybe it's the router.

You've also not said if you've contacted Sony tech support.

With that, i find there's nothing more to say or do to help you. Maybe you need to find a friend or family member to help you in person (and to read the suggestions you've received).

Might try Unplugging the ac adapter to your router for 5 minutes or so, sometimes they don't clean their routing tables... maybe turn off everything else connected through it too.

After you power up the router, give it two minutes to fully connect to its internet and stabilze before powering up the blue ray.
