I think you get a free month when you first sign up. Mine is automatically charged to my credit card each month. I also signed up for Acorn which is all British shows for $4.99 a month.

I LOVE Netflix!!!

For 9 dollars a month I have unlimited access to almost every show I want to watch, plus they change out the movies frequently enough that I'm excited when they show the new movies available. This month, they have Home (newish animated movie) and Gone in 60 Seconds (I was just thinking about this movie a few weeks ago and I wanted to watch it)

The only negative I can think of is that it uses bandwidth and may eat into your monthly data cap, if you have one.

We've had to curtail our online viewing (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc) over the past few months because we were constantly going over our data cap.

I'm fairly certain that this is because my husband works from home most days, which uses a lot of bandwidth to maintain his VPN and VOIP. I'm fairly certain that your average consumer, no matter how much they used it, wouldn't go over the cap llimits.

I've been encouraging my parents to sign up for Netflix for quite a while now. I truly feel they won't regret it, and neither will you.

Love Netflix and Amazon Prime. The latter also supplies me a great deal of music all during the day.

Love Netflix. Terrific entertainment value. I supplement Netflix by purchasing views of more recent movies from other companies, but Netflix has plenty to see (Loved Gone in 60 Seconds).

We almost exclusively watch Netflix and Acorn (subscriptions - $7.99 and $4.99 respectively), but we use ROKU for streaming. What do we love.....? NO commercials. I also listen to music on Pandora, which is free on ROKU. We love all the British viewing we used to purchase on DVD or borrow from the library.

We'll have to start up one of these services at the condo while we are away from home. Here, we get everything we want on DVDs from our local library. Last time I looked at the Netflix offerings online, the few things that looked interesting were things we'd already viewed -- sometimes a year earlier.

Most of the TV series we've watched are put out by Acorn. Might that be a better bet for us than Netflix or Amazon Prime?

What internet speed is required to download these services? We have a Blu-Ray at the condo -- and cable DVR.

I would jump on Netflix if they would allow to download the movie or show for watching later offline. I could download to a flash drive and have them available to watch when out in the rv. I have a WiFi connection with att portable unit but it would use up a lot of my data streaming movies. Do any of these services allow you to download for later offline use? We have direct TV in the rv and the ability to stream with the TV and the blu ray player I just don't want to use that much of my data allowance.

Love Netflix. Acorn is wonderful.

chisue, just to clarify, a Netflix subscription is for use wherever you are. It's not location specific in any way. You get a subscription and then use it when and where you wish, You just need hardware that will pick pass along the signal to your TV. That could be a laptop, or a Blu Ray player if it has the Netflix app and internet connectivity.

See attached for Netflix's bandwidth recommendations. 3-4 Mb is adequate. Streaming video of any kind is not a good idea for anyone on a use-limited connection, including most satellite internet connections or a cell phone data connection that's NOT unlimited, because it will exhaust your use allowance very fast. .

gyr, the copyright laws most certainly allow downloads. That's what happens when you buy or rent a movie from itunes, for example.

Netflix and the other "streamers" don't have that kind of license. They could if they wanted to.

Amazon prime does now allow downloads for later use I just read about it. I don't have prime, I considered it back when they had the sale on but didn't. My sister has prime, I wonder if I could use hers to try it out, can't you share your prime subscription?

Is there information on exactly how much data a specific movie would use for determining if it would exceed the cap?

A comment on the Netflix site suggests SD is about 1GB per hour and HD up to 3. There's an account setting to dial down image quality if desired to use less.

A Sat internet connection can be as little as 5 PER MONTH, and through a cell phone or Ipad using the cellular data connection (if not an unlimited account), that or less so trouble can come fast.

Something else about Netflix that we like.... If you can't finish viewing what you are watching you can pick it up where you left off the next time you decide to view it. If you are watching a series, it will automatically forward to the next episode.

grainlady, I agree that Netflix does as you describe but it's not so unusual. Amazon Prime has the same behavior for unfinished episodes and when the end of one in a series is reached. My DVD player also resumes at the last spot when turned off and later turned back on when the disk is left in.
