Since these are to be your only window coverings I think before the purchase you think about what you want from them. I use solar shades in some spaces to control heat and UV rays during the day they allow the view and privacy in the daytime but not at night I honestly find the need for privacy most of the time less than you might imagine but for me not being able to see out is a big deal. As for the roll I think a reverse roll is a cleaner look.

Standard. But before you order a whole house worth, buy a test shade for (say) a bathroom window and try it out for a week or two. Quality varies a lot from company to company.

i got mine from Shade Store and i didn't have to dictate which way i wanted. I tried it both ways and decided i wanted to go with standard. Standard vs reverse is easily changeable like a toilet paper on my shade. just pop out, and reverse!

Doing standard versus reverse roll really depends on the depth of the pocket of the opening because if they aren't very deep, the reverse roll may create privacy gaps between the opening and the shade. Another alternative would be doing a standard roll with a 4'' metal fascia or a square fabric wrapped cassette head rail. These can provide a nice, sleek, modern style and give you the best of both worlds.
