Comments (6)Thank you Debra.I love this Torenia plantI use to have one years ago,and forgot to bring it in the first winter I had it and thought it had died, but, in the spring I found a bunch of little plants coming up and gowing, but,I finally had lost all of it,so I was very happy when I found a plant at our local nursery that only opens up a few months each spring.its a member of the African violet group, but,it tolerates a little sun very good. Thanks for your comments on the daylilies. MANTIS: yes the TORENIA plant tolerates heat very well, just not a lot of hot sun, but it does like a little sunshine.Have to be careful with the watering and not over water it.Thats how I have killed several of them, over watering.let it dry out before watering again.and yes,it does like a little early morning sunshine or late evening.just not in the hottest part of the day,it needs in the shade, then. This little kitty can be just a barrel of laughs..Every morning when it hears my front door unlock and open, it just comes from out of no where, just jumping up and down like a bucking horse, and it sits there waiting for its food it knows I am bringing. it sits there looking up at me,and moving b ackwards each step I make.It wants to be first to get its head in the bowl to eat, as the mother is always waiting by the step each morning, too.Shes wild and wont let me get too close to her, but, shes very pretty grey tabby. jean...See MoreBoston gone? Comments (14)Some good speakers at the RI show this year - Ken Druse is on at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 21. I really like his books and, unless I'm mistaken, he's a good speaker. Karl Gercens is at noon on both Friday & Saturday - I haven't seen him before, but he's from Longwood Gardens (PA). Paul Miskovsky, an expert in xeriscaping from Falmouth, is doing 3 different talks; he's very involved in MassHort, and did the main display garden with Allen Haskell for several years at the NE show. Then there's the Designer Forum - I've been meaning to get to that for years but ... maybe this year!...See MoreA few on Thursday
Comments (10)Avedon, yes Whiskered Tree Swift is a Lambertson. We love Luddy's flowers, but many do not do well for us. Still, we hope and keep trying. I wanted Whiskered Tree Swift for two reasons--it's a toothy one with an eye and it has pink teeth. In our hybridizing, we have decided to focus on toothy ones with saturated deep colors, contrasting eyes, or colored teeth. There are just too many pastel toothy ones already. We buy many southerns. Some turn out to be hardy here even though they are evergreens. Some die their first winter, even a mild one that last winter. We have started the process of eliminating the ones who just hang in there. We sent a box full of them to a friend in Alabama this spring....See MoreThursday and Friday blooms
Comments (18)What's Up Down South really catches my eye. Bob likes them tall but most of his tall ones are yellow. Having one in orange red color range would be nice. Trahlyta is really an amazing color. The base color is so gray. I love the name Back to the Fuchsia--a nice play on words. One of my son's favorite movies was Back to the Future. He's not a plant person, but maybe he would like this one. Nancy...See Morehoosier_nan (IN z5b/6a)
