Switches & Vanity Reface Opinions Needed - My 50's Bathroom Saga
Comments (16)Does it really matter if the 50's BR's didn't have shaker? If you like it, and you're going to the trouble of replacing doors, I would do whichever style you like best. Otherwise, why not just paint your 'real 50's' doors? You're not putting in 50's light switches, and I assume you're not putting in a 50's fan. Doesn't look like a 50's toilet... I actually like the look of the shaker style drawer front in your pic, even though I have shaker doors in my kitchen and went with slab on my smaller top drawers. Problem with the shaker drawer front, is I am not sure if you can put a handle in the middle part, is there enough wood? So, if you wanted to position your new knobs/handles in the middle that might be a deal breaker. I am not sure if this option would work for you, but in our Master BR we did not have enough space to put in a 4 gang box. I positioned 2 2 gangs one above the other. You could do 3 and 2, or 2 and 2 using one double. I put my two programmable switches (and I strongly recommend using a timer switch for your fan) together, and the light switches together. In your case, I would put the three light switches on one gang, and the fan and the outlet on the other....See MoreNeed an extra outlet in the bathroom and want some opinions
Comments (8)The more i research this, the more a 3 gang box sounds like a better idea. Thanks guys. Would a 3 gang box screw into the 2 X 4 stud and still have enough support for an in wall night light / recepticle / switch? The stud is on the right side of the box so if i kept the nightlight to the far left i shouldn't have too much of a problem with the box flexing when pushing and pulling plugs from the center recepticle. Or would a 3 gang old work box work better?...See MoreNeed Bathroom Opinions Please --
Comments (40)I'm wondering how you feel about the closet doors on your bed wall. We usually keep ours open, which isn't real attractive, but it's tucked in a corner. Even if you keep them closed, it seems like an odd place to have doors. I have found that when I've slept in the guest bedroom and DH gets up before me, I can hear him sliding hangers in the closet, which shares a wall with the guest room. Is it feasible to share one larger closet and have a smaller closet behind it as an overflow/seasonal clothes closet? The passage would be between closets, eliminating a door. Otherwise, you have the hers BR door, two closet doors, hallway to his BR, and, I assume, a main door....See MoreNeed a second opinion on shower/bathroom renovation
Comments (6)@ tangerinedoor Yes, the curb is quite high. It's not so bad on the shower side, since the custom pour raised the height of the shower floor from the bathroom floor. The contractor decided on the height (and the width) based on the space needed for the herringbone design but it's taller and wider than I would have liked. The drain is a tiled drain so it blends in with the shower floor - which is actually well slanted. There are no issues with water draining in the shower based on tests but I haven't actually used the shower as I'm waiting for glass to be installed....See Morebadabing2
