Sun-room floor, can I paint?
Comments (11)Jane, I was not attempting to discourage you from painting your floor. I just wanted to share what I learned through my own experience, because you had mentioned that you once considered using tile. Also, whoever buys the house might choose a floating floor and the paint wonÂt make a difference. Although I decided not to use paint on my porch/sunroom, I plan to go ahead with painting the plywood floor in the finished basement. Like you, I am contemplating a beachy (or summery) look, especially since I am on the coast. I thought about a distressed white or a gray similar to weathered shingles or weathered wood (ThereÂs so much of it around here). The patterned floors look great and seem like fun. The possibilities are endless. You can use stencils or sponging. You can also paint a faux area rug. This year I donÂt have the time or patience to attempt a pattern, but I am trying to learn decorative painting and maybe soon I can acquire the skills to attempt a pattern. For now, the painted floor is something inexpensive to go under area rugs. IÂm no help with a color scheme, but your wicker serving cart is great and will probably look good no matter what colors you choose. With area rugs, lots of plants and that lovely wicker cart, the floors donÂt have to be noticeable unless the paint looks really good....See Moresun Room ideas please
Comments (10)A phony plant in a sun room makes no sense at all and if you are actually planning on using the space invest in some solar shades and since the space gets so much light I would choose another color instead of yellow. The reason you see so much wicker in sun rooms is that the sun ruins fabric and wood very quickly that is why I say solar shades to keep the view but block heat and UV rays....See Moreindoor sunroom ideas
Comments (13)I would rather be looking outside if I were sitting there. Do you have any outlets for lamps, they always cozy a space up. The outdoor wall lighting and ceiling light I see reflected in the night time pix is not giving that feeling. They're washing it all out. Fiber shades that look like faux Roman shades could help. You don't have to lower them unless sun fade of your furniture starts to happen. Are you considering a paint color? Green or yellow are great in sunrooms. Comments (8)Hi Preeti, your home is so well maintained and I am sure the sunroom is a great space. Your best bet is to plan for successive blooms. Given water restrictions, native plants might be a good option. If there is a native nursery in your area, they will likely be happy to help. I found a few suggestions, but lack personal experience with these plants, so please confirm with a nursery pro. California Fuschia (Zauschneria californica) Epilobium canum. A very hardy native that can take a lot of abuse, this is commonly found in dry areas, rocky slopes and cliffs. Abundant, scarlet tubular flowers from July to November, popular with hummingbirds. Likes sun to partial sun exposure, may be used as a ground cover. 2’h x 4’ attracts humming birds Matilija Poppy (Romneya coulteri) bit tricky to get established, but is worth the effort. It requires excellent drainage and lots of sun. Large 4-6” crinkled flowers appear from spring to summer. Spreads by underground rhizomes. 3-5’h x 8’+w Desert or Apricot Mallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua)hardy evergreen perennial, this plant has coral flowers clustered on stems spring to fall. Prefers dry winters and benefits from pruning after it blooms. 3’h x 3’w Panamint Beard Penstemon (Penstemon floridus) A large showy perennial, this plant combines coarsely serrated to smooth leaves with hot pink flowers atop tall spikes. Prefers hot, dry summers and cold winters. 3-4’h x 3’w Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia leucantha) This plant displays long purple spikes in summer and fall that gracefully arch above grayish green foliage. Will take some light shade. Keep tidy and attractive by cutting old stems off at the ground. 3’h x 4’w...See MoreRelated Professionals
