How to get rid of ants in a potted orange tree?
Comments (23)This thread has reminded me of one of my many nightmare stories about fire ants. These ants are simply a part of life in much of the warmer parts of this country. I was living in S. Carolina at the time. I got into my car, backed down the driveway, and started down the road. After about two or three minutes, I felt a sharp sting on my calf. Immediately, I felt stings all over, including down my blouse. A huge swarm of the ants had entered my car at some point from the time I had driven it earlier in the day till the moment they all tried to sting me at once. The nurses counted dozens and dozens of stings from my toes to the top of my head. I was bothered by 'phantom' ant stings for months after that, lol....See MoreThinking of using shredded pine cones in mulch
Comments (3)I have run both spruce and pine cones through my shredder and used them in the garden beds as mulch and put them into the compost bin and have not seen any new trees sprouting from those seed pods, and I seldom see any new trees sprouting even where the tons of these cones fall and do not get picked up. I do know that does happend because I have, on occassion, transplanted pine, and spruce, seedlings, but that mostly has been in areas with lots of needles covering the ground. It may be that these seed pods need that kind of environment for the seeds to germinate....See MoreShould I pasteurize my potting mix??
Comments (13)if i HAVE to buy miracle grow then i do bake it, cuz then it never fails, i get them gnats! my whole problem this winter was caused by miracle grow. i have since then switched to stay green and now have no problem. but i had to bake all of my soil to get rid of the gnats. that's the only way i knew how to, uhhhh passed down from mom!! LOL now its all stay green and its no problems.but a friend of mine told me that you can use the dunks and put them in water and use it in the soil only. and it works great! hmmmmmm wish i'd known that this wnter!! LOL lesson i learned. if miracle grow is my only choice, wait till i can get something else!! LOL IMHO :')) ps the dunks you can get at lowes, at least i did. they are some kinda mosquito thingi. :'))...See MorePine Cone Looking Cocoons Killing Aborvitae
Comments (7)I did not say my Arbs have pine cones, I said they had cocoons that look like pine cones because I could not think of a better way to describe them. Anyway I pulled bout 1/3 of a bucket full off of one bush only last night. Took me about 45 minutes to just get them off of this one bush. This one still looked very green so I got them off of this one. I already took them off the ones that just had a few, but the ones that have so many and already look dead I have done nothing with yet. Probably just going to dig them out this weekend and burn them to kill the worms....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
