L Shaped Space - Your Thoughts Please
Comments (5)Good to see you with another project! Just to play devil's advocate, and because IIRC your kids are two boys just a tad older than my 2 boys. Do they really need better organization for their stuff? Is this wishful thinking on your part, that if they had different space, their stuff wouldnt be all over the counter everywhere like an explosion? My boys' bathroom looks like that- I close my eyes to it and make them clean it once a week. The rest of the time it looks like what it is, a bathroom that belongs to two teen boys. And I have two brothers- their bathroom looked like that and they are both very neat clean organized adults. VERY! So being a pig when you are 14 -18 does not predict that you will be a slob as an adult. With all that said, I am not sure I like the tall tower separating the toilet from the vanity. I think it might be claustrophopic. I think that if the storage isnt accessible while they are at the sink they wont use it- well they might take things that you put inside out but I doubt they will put them back. What do they need to store? What about a shallow tower between the two sinks? Maybe with an enclosed outlet and a designated space for the presumed electric toothbrush and blowdryer? Do they have electric razors too? If not a single shallow tower in between the two sinks, what about a set of shallow shelves from counter up for each sink. I have seen(but cant find right now) where the upright that the ledge sits on is actually a sliding or push to open door with more hidden space- that would be awesome for not-to-tall plug ins! To save money, it isn't necessary to move the laundry room. But, moving a kitchen will cost $60 - 100k. Or more depending on how your house is put together. What if you move the stove cabinets down toward the bedroom and put a wall at that end of the kitchen making a U shaped kitchen. By moving that cabinet group, you can put a doorway into bedroom 3 making the hallway to the bedrooms go through bedroom 3. You COULD even build a wall to separate bedroom 3 from the walkway to the bedroom area. Bedroom 3 will be smaller, but still a bedroom. ???? Much cheaper. Fixes your problem and still retains 3 bedrooms....See MoreL-shaped bar in man cave
Comments (4)Hi, Tyler, Since this forum is for Home Decorating, there probably aren't many woodworking experts here. You may have better luck getting an answer in the woodworking forum - http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/wood Or, Google brackets to support 90lbs, and you'll come up with some options, such as at this link - https://www.countertopbracket.com/ "Countertops made from granite, marble, quartz, Silestone, Corian and even heavy butcher block are becoming very popular. Kitchen designers and homeowners are pushing the structural limits of these solid surface materials as they become aware of new trends and materials available to them. Accordingly Centerline Brackets specializes in manufacturing high quality countertop supports designed to safely support and bracket commercial and residential applications. Comments (11)To save money and because I love my granite countertops, we're reusing them. So some things are set in stone (literally). Everything to the left of the sink can't be moved (especially the gas stove). I can rearrange what's under the countertop to the right (so I could switch the dishwasher to be closer to the sink, but when the kitchen was u-shaped, I had put the silverware drawer to the right of the sink and the dishes in the cabinet above it so I could easily put things away - whether from the sink or the dishwasher. I can still move some stuff around because the cabinet maker hasn't come yet to build the missing base cabinet (24") and the new 21" cabinet which I designed to go all the way down to the countertop (like the corner pantry next to the fridge to use as a pantry since we don't have a lot of storage space for food. The countertop on the island is only 14" deep because the bar was already in place when the countertops were installed. I could remove the bar and make the countertop all one height but it would probably leave an ugly seam and the grains would go in different directions. Everyone in the family is tall (except my MIL in her wheelchair) and there isn't that much seating, so the bar stools are/were actually used a lot...See More- 4 years ago
