Anney, Are you sure you have the powdered innoculant for direct application to the seeds. Some companies also sell a granular type which you sprinkle in the soil. Either kind works fine, though. Something which might work, although I haven't tried it, is stirring a little honey or molasses into the seeds, and then coating with the innoculant. I don't possibly see how it could hurt anything, although, who know's. It should provide a little extra carbs for the bacteria to grow on. Of course, it will make the planting process a little messy. I ordered a WHOLE bunch of peas and beans for the spring, probably 6 or 8 pounds total, so I'll be planting a lot. I'm going to try the molasses thing and see if it works.

many COUNTY soil conservation dist offices sponsor plant sales at the appropriate planting season .... see link for one such in FL ... in MI ... i can get .. or used to.. 25 trees of one kind for $16 .. i am sure the prices have risen ... but do look into it.. even if you missed this years ... with many years of experience.. i would suggest you leave seed growing to the pro's .... when dealing with trees .... presuming you actually want to see your trees hit maturity in your lifetime.. lol .. its not that it cant be done.. but to do it well.. its more than throwing some veggie seeds on the ground.. and harvesting 60 or 90 days later .... good luck ken Here is a link that might be useful: Thanks to all for making our Annual Tree Sale for 2013 a success!

My SW are only now beginning to flower, later than most of my other cowpeas... and they have been developing short runners. But then, my other yardlongs are also way behind where they should be this year. In comparison, the Chinese bush yardlong I grew last year (from Newgardener) was already bearing by this time. Of course, the weather this year could be causing the poor performance, so the comparison may not be a fair one. Provided I get seed from the SW this year, I will grow them side-by-side next year. Two of my cowpeas, though ("MN 13" and "Green Dixie") have set large numbers of pods. They seem to be not only early, but cool-weather tolerant. As I've said before, you can learn good things from a bad year! ;-) "Green Dixie" is a particularly large-seeded variety, so for it to be loaded with pods this early is very encouraging. Oh, and since this is your thread, Mauirose, a Moringa update. In spite of the cooler weather, my plants are now 2 feet tall, and I just picked the first harvest of leaves yesterday. The wife made a white soup with it, along with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, ginger, and chicken.

I have 2 x Abraham Derby, 2 x Golden Celebration (unfortunately they both suffer badly from black spot in my garden), 2 x Sharifa Asma, 3 x Desdemona (purchased bare root a few weeks ago and currently in pots waiting for me to dig their permanent homes, 7 x St. Swithun (I bought one as a climber in 2012 and, when I cut it back two years ago I tried my hand at taking cuttings of some of the pruned wood - about 20 cuttings all grew). I gave away most of them but kept 6, which I'm growing as shrubs - so far, so good. I also have more than 100 Queen of Sweden, which I grow as a hedge around the lawn. Fortunately, the Queen of Sweden is very healthy and trouble free for me and I do love her flowers, which also last well as a cut flower and look great when they go in a vase with English lavender. I think that in future I'm going to concentrate more on old Tea Roses as they seem to be much more disease free for me and, thankfully, don't need pruning.
