Tub/shower combo & 2 sinks or Separate Tub & Shower & 1 sink
Comments (7)Is there any way to run plumbing to the separate vanity area to make it into a sink? We are doing a gut remodel of our bathroom and we were able to cram in the shower, 5'6" claw foot tub, toilet and two sinks (on adjacent walls though, not next to each other) in a slightly less than 10'x11' space including sloped ceilings and a couple of windows. Here is an older version of our plan for the bathroom but shows the two sinks. The one next to the tub is a console sink (on chrome legs) so very open and the tub is now a double ended tub with plumbing in the middle. Here is a newer plan showing a tile layout I was messing with and the right tub. It also shows a bump out for a knee wall where the new drain is going to run - it turns out there was steel angle along that wall and we could not run the drain line under it so had to go through. It's more of a challenge to get the water there but wasn't impossible....See MoreHow to Convert a Garden Tub to a tub/shower combo?
Comments (6)That alcove is designed to house a tub only, not a tub shower unit. You can't "repurpose" what's there without water damage to your floor, window, and behind your walls. The tub itself not designed to be used that way, and neither is the window designed to be in a wet area. You'd need to rip it all out and start over by installing a smaller and waterproof window, then installing a tub that had an integral tile flange which is part of the waterproofing system needed. Then your waterproofing membrane and whatever wall cladding you might want....See MoreConflicted big walk-in shower or soaking tub with smaller shower
Comments (32)I wouldn't give up the tub because it really makes the bathroom. I think the Master Bath is more of a master with a soaking tub. I would never give up 2 sinks. It wouldn't be good for our marriage to be fighting over the sink. I like the privacy of the toilet area in your first drawing. I would go with the smaller shower with the tub. I have had a 36" by 36" shower for years. A 6'2' large build husband, who is comfortable in there. We are going to make our new shower 36" x 48" because we have the space. I agree with someone else don't put the bench seat in. I think tile also gives you more space as opposed to a fiberglass surround which adds a couple inches to the interior walls. I considered going into my closet for a 60" shower but I don't think it is worth it. I will make the smaller shower elegant and put top features in it....See MoreShower/tub combo or walk-in shower for 5' x 5' shower & toilet space?
Comments (3)gee, if you are planning to sell in the next few years and if it is the only tub or bath I would probably keep a tub/shower combo even though you would most likely sell to someone without kids, many people do love baths. If resale is not in the future do what works for you. No tub and glassed shower or wet room will feel much larger. My in laws in the UK just replaced their only tub with a walk in shower and will let the possible future buyers change it if need be. I just added a master bath and chose closet space and nice large shower instead of doing tub and smaller separate shower and have no regrets but we have a hall shower/bath combo....See MoreLars
