Marvel 48" Side-by-Side Built-In Refrigerator
Comments (32)On my end, I'm still happy with the purchase (especially in light of the cost savings), but I have experienced a few issues. 1. The seal (at the base of the freezer where ice tends to build up) has cracked slightly, so I have experienced a minor drip as well. But that is nothing that a little replacement putty can't fix. 2. The hinge on the refrigerator makes a click sound once you get past a certain point. It hasn't bothered me enough to call Marvel though. 3. I guess the last thing is the noise. The refrigerator was pretty quite the first several months... certainly quieter than the posts on Houzz make it out to be. But in the past few months it has started to get a little bit louder. It's not loud enough to be a nuisance when you're having a conversation in the kitchen, but it's a bit louder than it was out of the box. At the price I paid, I would also buy again. But if price were no object, I would probably go for one of the luxury brand names....See MoreKitchen Aid Refrigerator (side by side Arrchitect II) Noisy?
Comments (10)Plumberry, Thanks, but I don't want to "lead you astray." This could be total baloney, so please check it out for yourself. My wife and I both liked their SxS counter-depth refrigerator and even now it's still tempting... [Hey Samsung guy(since you're auditing this discussion) give me a written, well-supported guarantee I'll get whatever parts I need within 24hrs of ordering them and I'll buy that Side by side right now!! Make contact with me prior to Thursday the 10th of June and you've sold a refrigerator (assuming you will match the lowest price at "HomeEverything.com"). I will also let Plumberry know - give him the same guarantee and you might sell another. Think about it!] Well, Plumberry - let's see what happens. Rich (PA fiddler) PS - This is probably showing up on Psydex right now, so somebody at Samsung is reading it - what will they do?. Hey Samsung - While you're at it, see if you can beat HomeEverything.com's price and terms....See MoreSamsung or Electrolux side by side refrigerator?
Comments (5)Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and comments. I think side by sides are one of those things that you either love them or you hate them. My past two fridges have been bottom mount freezers and I definitely like them. But at this stage, with 4 kids, I was looking to have something that the kids could access themselves. Right now, my older two, who are the only two that can help themselves, have to climb up into the fridge just to get out the milk or a yogurt cup or something. But, I should also add that our current fridge, while a hideous monstrosity, still functions just fine and will take up a new home in the garage right next to the chest freezer. So, we do still have plenty of storage for large items. I mean, really, there's no need to have 3 gallons of milk in the house at one time, is there? ;) Two could easily be kept in the garage. Thanks, again. I didn't know about the JD rating of the Samsung, and with your comments, I think I'm definitely leaning that way....See MoreFlipping Side-by-Side Refrigerator?
Comments (7)My new and wider clearance is 11-1/2 inches and that is after turning the studs behind that wall to pick up a little space, replacing a standard freestanding fridge with a built-in and keeping the same footprint on the island, but probably easing it back a bit withing the toekick space. I don't know if I had 4" before the remodel and it hadn't been a big issue for us. Folks could wait a few seconds, someone can ease the door back or the person can go around the island. You really shouldn't be sitting with your fridge door open that much. We didn't open the aisle for people passing when the fridge door was open. We wanted the space larger to allow more clearance before the exterior door hit the cabinets behind it and wanted a generally wider aisle there since that is a side door under a covered parking area and the most used entrance into our house. Had nothing to do with walking past an open fridge -- something we still don't do much even with that being near the most used entrance. I would set your fridge up for the best use of your kitchen in terms of eating and cooking. If that is going to require you to be walking back and forth past an open fridge, I would rethink the layout, not the fridge choice....See MoreM
