I purchased the Kitchen Aid KSCS25FS counter depth unit about 3.5 years ago and it was the first Architect II fridge model at that time. The overall size is good (24.5 cu ft), but we wish there was more in the freezer side. Also note it is 72" tall, so make sure there is enough space. The unit is much quieter than the older GE it replaced and we hardly every hear it running. The only "noisy" part is the ice maker & dispenser. You can hear each time ice is dumped into the door-bin, and the ice dispensing motor is also a bit loud (since the motor is in the freezer door). We wish that the cut-out for the water/ice dispenser were larger, as large cups don't fit and have to be angled-in. We saw the newest model in a store a while back (KSCS25FV) and liked the redesigned water/ice dispenser on it, as larger items can fit better. Overall, we haven't had any problems with our unit, everything is kept at the right temps and it runs quiet.

I'm looking for the biggest counter depth side by side that I can find and found that KA is one of the bestout there. I like the 72" model. All of the appliance stores I visited recommended it.
They didn't have Samsung in stock but Samsung has good consumer reports rating so that is another that I am considering. It will be one or the other. DH will be the final decider.

Thanks for the responses! It seems that the noise thing is not a real issue (thanks). It's, as I mentioned before, sort of pricey but I guess it will be a good solution. I really appreciate your comments!!!

Plumberry, here's some "scuttlebut" we heard and you might want to check it out. Our first choice was the Samsung counter depth side by side until... Yeh, it's supposed to be a great refrigerator if you get a good one. BUT, if you need parts - hold your hat and your temper. Parts for the Samsung and the LG are said to be a real hit and miss affair. Do a Google search and you'll find plenty of "very annoyed (putting it nicely) people." I'm not willing to "spin the wheel of fortune" on that one - so that's why I'm opting for the more-expensive Kitchen Aid.

Here is another Samsung unit that seems to be nice. Not only does it have the ice bin in the door, but the actual ice maker as well. I've always wondered why Kitchen Aid didn't place the ice maker in the door above the bin (like Samsung did). The height is 70" and there is 1 cu ft less space inside.

Because it is colder in the body of the freezer than the door.Less likely you will have partial melting during hot/humid weather and your ice refreezes into one giant block unable to be dispensed through the door.

Rich, Thanks so much for posting about the Samsung. Parts and service are very important to us. It makes sense to reconsider.

Thanks, but I don't want to "lead you astray." This could be total baloney, so please check it out for yourself. My wife and I both liked their SxS counter-depth refrigerator and even now it's still tempting...

I just purchased a 3 year old 24.5 cu.ft. CD Kitchen Aid side by side from craigs list. I like everything about the fridge except the noise and the fact that it runs often even when I rarely open the door (one person household). The GE regular depth fridge I had in it's place was extremely quiet and was off more than it was on. I'm going to look into a GE CD and sell the KA. Doreen Bru
