premier, the window isn't as small as it looks in the photo I posted. Not really an expert at taking digital photos. budge1, looks like someone found your example - and I like it. I am looking on the interet to find some material I like. Not that I need a sewing project now, but chances of finding the colors I want already made is probably very slim. I think a lot of little things wouldn't be good either - either just one teal or aqua clock or a valance. dekr8 - are those your curtains? Did you make them or do they come already made up? If you made them, did you use a pattern? I really like that idea. I can almost picture some brown and aqua valance hanging from those pegs - I like the use of pegs - different than most valances. The first material, (link posted below) edged in brown would look great on my window I think. DH and I love aqua too. We once went to look at a boat and when we walked up and saw the interior was aqua, we just looked at one another and knew we were going to buy it. This is the first time we have used it in our decorating. I have never bought anything on ebay before, I might try on that first fabric and see how it goes - I have 5 hours to think about it or I could just order one yard - since it is 54 inches wide that is probably all I would need - or I could get two yards and do a couple of pillows for the family room sofa or a table runner for my dark table. Would too much coordination with the same material be too hokey?

Don't you think that lower cabinet is just for show? How would you open the doors with the tub fixtures there? It does feel like you're sacrificing shower and vanity space because of the tub. It's a large bath but the vanity and shower seem like an afterthought while the tub is like a shrine. I'd change the vanity in this floor plan. It looks like you've got 40" with two sinks. You said you're never in there at the same time so I'd switch to one sink. One roomy sink and counter would be better for resale than crowded double sinks imo. The reason I mention resale is that people always bring it up to argue for double sinks, yet a majority of people never use two sinks at once. Occasionally one spouse is so sloppy that the other won't share a sink with them.

I just measured, and it’s 36 inches from the edge of the fireplace to the door trim on the right-hand side, In 24 inches from the edge of the left side to the window trim. In order to be symmetrical both sides should be 24 inches. I’m thinking a single cabinet base, with open book shelves above, Would work. I’d be ever so grateful if someone could mock that up, so I could get a sense of the look/scale.

Sometimes you can understand color relationships better by putting the samples together. If it doesn't work that way, it won't work on the house. Just be aware that colors get stronger and darker as the sample size gets larger and they change with horizontal vs vertical orientation to the light but not enough to overcome a poor color relationship. What I have very little confidence in is visualizing colors on a computer screen. It simply too inaccurate to be useful. I have always relied on taking color samples to the site or at least outdoors. I think focusing on color descriptions and computer mockups is a specious approach. Personally I think the dullness of most of these stain colors contrasted with the brightness of the white trim is distracting. I would wrap the corners with the shingles or at least paint the trim a more subdued color. Here is a house on the cape that takes advantage of a more subtle trim color and shingle shapes.
