Did you do that thing they always do in movies, where you stand close behind and reach around them to show them how to do the task?

All I remember saying to him was, "You just want to do a few quick pulses of the chopper, you don't want to puree it too much, you still want some identifiable bits in there." We were making my style of guac with cherry tomatoes, parsley/cilantro, and cucumber added in. That would be tough to do in a blender!

The closest I ever came was having a family friend in Woodland Hills CA who had a family friend that was an agent of RR. I have long admired his work in conservation. He supports the Natural Resources Defense Council. I like that he picked his cause and has stuck with it over the years.

Something I've always wondered about that's waaaaay off topic from pinkmountain's dream, but it does involve Redford. I grew up in Sierra Madre which is a small town in Southern CA. Paul Newman once made a movie there called The Secret War of Harry Frigg. Stupid movie but we got to watch them filming every day after school. My friends and I were surprised to see Newman was a fairly small man...maybe 5' 8" at the most and very slight build. Anyway, in the last scene from The Sting, Newman and Redford are walking side by side down an alley and are exactly the same height. I've always thought of Redford as being taller than that. I suppose they could have used other actors for the scene. Or, maybe I had a dream once that RR was tall. :-)

Of course, I had to google to see how tall Robert Redford is, 5’11”. And, also according to Google, Paul Newman was 5’10”. So not a lot of difference.

Not sure WHAT it means when RR charms his way into your kitchen to convince you to make guacamole! I've always believed that heaven was a place replete with guacamole and you don't get fat from eating all you want!

L, my Mother once told me that she had a nightmare about Robert Redford. She dreamed he was sleeping in her bed and she couldn't wake him up. (grin) Actually, she likes Paul Newman even better, though.

I can't even begin to interpret that dream, although I swear some of mine would make interesting fodder for mental health professionals!

Lars, that's closer than I've ever come to meeting anyone famous, except Chuck Norris, who I met once while I was competing in a karate tournament. He was actually a very nice man, but I remember him being short, although his bio says he is 5'10". That was in the mid-70s, before he became very famous.

Based on those I've seen, Google tends to be very "kind" in regard to the height/size of actors. There's truly no chance Paul Newman was 5' 10". My mention of 5' 8" was generous. I'm almost 5' 10", so I could likely be 6' 2" on Google.

As a side note, in the 1990s, the Emperor of Japan bought four of the same table lamps of mine that Robert Redford bought! I also designed a pair of chandeliers for the royal palace of Indonesia (I did not like the finish they chose), and the the crown prince of Saudi Arabia has one of my chandeliers in his bedroom - but he chose one that I like very much.

One meets a lot of famous people in L.A. and New York, and I ran into Mindy Cohn and Charlotte Rae at F&S Fabrics one day when I was out shopping for fabric. I was at the button counter standing next to Charlotte, who was buying feather boas, and she was talking with anyone close to her that would listen, and so I had a good conversation with her. I had always liked her, but I liked her even more after that. Then I met Mindy Cohn, who was buying some iridescent sparkly applique material that I got very interested in. I asked her what she was going to do with it, and she said that she was going to give it to some friends of hers who made costumes for strippers in Las Vegas. Then I asked where she found it so that I could get some for myself, and I used it on Lycra T-shirts that I made. When I wore one of those shirts at a party in Hollywood, someone asked me if I worked for Bob Mackie. Half of the shirt was see-through mesh Lycra.

I have tons of lucid dreams that have celebrities in them, and I am convinced that they are real while I am having them, but then I wake up and realize that I have never met these people. I once stood in line at an Italian restaurant behind Jasmine Guy, and the friend I was with started up a conversation with her. I was surprised that her real voice was the same as the character she played on A Different World and also that she was so tiny.

I met other famous people who would come to our warehouse to inspect furniture, such as Maria Shriver (My boss decorated Arnold's house) - and she was quite unpleasant, but I also met Don Johnson in the early 90s, and he was very nice. I happened to see him through my window when he drove into our parking lot in a Masarati (which impressed me), and I thought, I wonder who that is. He was also dressed very nicely in an Italian linen suit. I think this was when he was in Miami Vice, which I also did not watch. The women in the office got very excited when he came in.

I once walked past who my friend Jimmy thought was Arsenio Hall on Melrose Street (and it did look exactly like him), but he was very short, and his IMDB bio says he is 5'11". I think IMDB got it wrong.

chloe, I’m not surprised that the heights of some male actors may be a tad inflated. My nephew played college basketball. The stats listed him as 6’7”. I knew he was tall, but not that tall. He said he is only 6’5” and that it is normal for the athletic departments to add a couple of inches and a few pounds to players.

Regarding dreams, my sister's a therapist and can make sense of some really crazy dreams. I'd be willing to wager not many are crazier than mine. :-/

Are we doing "brush with greatness" stories? Here's mine:

I was about 13 years old and my mother and I were at the Galleria in Houston getting a drink at an early version of a food court. You got your food or drink from one of the many different counters, then you went to the middle to pay at the centrally located cashiers. My mother was sitting at a table near the cashier stand and I was waiting in line.

I did not notice her, but apparently she was frantically trying to get my attention. Finally I got a tap on my shoulder from someone standing behind me. I turned and he pointed to himself and said, "Robert Morse".

I have no recollection of what happened after that! I was a fan of his. I think he was appearing in a play locally that week.

I once sold popcorn to Bob Hope and his wife while working at a movie theatre in my little town of Sierra Madre CA (that I mentioned earlier). For some reason they did a lot of filming there. The movie theatre was so small with just 3 employees...the owner, another girl and me. The lobby was about 12' x 10' max. Bob Hope had made a movie in Sierra Madre (in the 50's, I think) called The Seven Little Foys. We just assumed that was the reason he might have picked our particular theatre. Also, it was out of the way and quiet. In the Heat of the Night was playing that night. It was also pretty well past that movie's original release date making it seem more of a mystery he was there. There might have been 25 people total watching the movie that night. I just recall being so nervous handing him the popcorn and giving change back to him. I also remember he had a patch over one of his eyes due to some surgery he'd had.

If you want to make it food related, I once saw Col. Sanders in the Atlanta airport. Standing at a lunch counter. I was a kid and went lookie lookie loudly, and my parents told me not to be so rude.

One of my best friends lives in Sierra Madre and has her furniture company there.

They also made Invasion of the Bodysnatchers in Sierra Madre, and that's what I remember it for.

Rococogurl has better stories about celebrities than I do. I met her on my birthday one year in Venice when she was in L.A. visiting her relatives - she grew up in L.A. but moved to New York, where she went to a lot of parties. At one party, she was talking with Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor and said, "Michael, you are standing on Elizabeth's dress!" I guess her skirt was too long. Rococogurl had a famous husband (now deceased) and so she got invited to a lot of interesting parties.

In the early 1990s I went to The Cat & the Fiddle restaurant on Sunset Blvd for an after work get-together, and we sat at a table inside next a table that had Keanu Reeves. He asked us if we minded if he smoked (most people smoked in the patio dining area) and we said "No" because it was Keanu Reeves. Later, Geena Davis came in with a large retinue. Keanu was there by himself.

Lars, we live close to Sierra Madre now. It's a quaint little town with lots of fond memories. It was Alverno HIgh School in Sierra Madre where they filmed the Paul Newman movie. The little theater I mentioned is still there, but I think it's a playhouse now. Yes...Invasion of the Body Snatchers was filmed in Sierra Madre, too. That was before my time, but people would talk about it.

We have friends whose home exterior in South Pasadena has been used for filming more than a few times. I can tell you they were very well compensated. One homeowner on that street had their entire exterior and landscaping redone for a movie (Space Jam with Michael Jordan...stupid movie!). The house in Father of the Bride (Steve Martin version) is right across the street from a family member's home on El Molino in Pasadena. If I recall, it was one of two homes used for the movie.

We have a family friend who's a film producer. Norma Rae with Sally Field was one of hers, along with a co-producer. Lots of stories to tell there!

We saw film crews all the time when we lived in Venice and would get notices on our front door. I Love You Man was filmed on our street, but countless movies, TV shows, and especially commercials are filmed at the boardwalk in Venice. My house (inside and out) was once used for a TV pilot, and I was also in it. I don't consider myself an actor, but as it turns out, I do have stage presence. I also got selected to be on TV game shows, including Hollywood Squares.

It's interesting how they choose locations. Our daughter lives just a few miles from The United Methodist Church in La Verne where they filmed the wedding at the end of The Graduate. You drive by and wonder WHY on earth they chose that particular church. My friend in South Pasadena once asked a film crew member why they used her street so often for filming. His response was the street could be "Anywhere, USA." We live in Glendora and they often close off the downtown area here for filming. It can be annoying at times.

My funniest “brush with fame“: Alec Baldwin was living in our neighborhood while he was filming a movie nearby. I can’t even remember which movie. One day as I was driving my then-pre-teen daughter to school along with another little girl in the neighborhood, Baldwin and his driver were in the car behind us. I told the girls when we got to the gate they could jump out, run back, and ask him for his autograph! They both looked at me blankly. They had no idea who Alec Baldwin was and had no desire for his autograph.

bbstx, that might have actually been a good thing. The stories I've heard about him make me wonder if he'd even be accommodating when it comes to autographs. Maybe better not to poke the bear!
