Wave Petunias-Do they really stand the heat?
Comments (10)There was a dianthus question posed in the Garden Letters section of the August 2005 Southern Living edition. The response was that "Bewitched", "Bath's Pink" and "Firewitch" tolerate high heat and humidity. "Firewitch" has blue foliage, a "very long flowering season" and bright magenta flowers "on an outstanding plant". When I gardened in Ohio I grew "Bath's Pink". It had a beautiful clove scent so I'm especially partial to it. I also can vouch for the Laura Bush Petunia. I grow it here in Florida. It blooms summer, fall, winter and spring for me. No deadheading necessary. Wonderful scent which wafts into the house when windows and doors are open. Flower color is magenta. It also self seeds. June...See MoreCan squash stand the Texas heat?
Comments (9)I'm still harvesting a bit from both yellow and zucchini. If I watered more, I think I'd still get more. But I try, as best I can, do do a fairy low water usage garden, like described in "Gardening When It Counts." One of the best squash to take the heat and deal with low-ish watering is tatuma, also known as calabacita. I've also noticed that spagetti squash is amazingly heat tolerant and a low water user too. BTW, tatuma doesn't seem to attrach squash vine borer either. Yum, squash! Here is a link that might be useful: The Accidental Huswife...See Moredual fuel vs stand-alone heat pump
Comments (11)nash as far as nat gas,I think price will be more of a concern than supply and that the price difference between the two fuel sources will only widen. I am attaching a fuel comparison calculator for your use. I generally like straight high eff HPs with air handler and backup aux strips but with older homes not well insulated or tight envelope, then I think dual fuel is a better choice. Of course, you need a professionally performed heat/cool load calculation for correctly sizing new HVAC as well as ductwork to be thoroughly inspected for size, insulation qualities, leaks, etc. If you have any hot/cold spots in your home, now is the time to address these issues. here is a quick synopsis of Nashville climate from Trane's site. I personally think it underreports both cooling and heating but that's just my idea. anyway, it gives you an idea. Climate averages for: NASHVILLE, TN, 37203 Hot weather Cold weather Average days per year above 75: 153 Average high temperature: 88.7 Average days per year below 40: 31 Average low temperature: 36.8 I would not have a Lennox HP because of poor performance/eff numbers. Regardless of brand, you want a var speed blower whether air handler or furnace. BTW, what is the model of the upstairs HP? let me know if you have other questions. IMO Good Luck! Comments (50)why don’t you just give the OP the final chapter in this mystery instead of playing games! The OP has the final chapter as of May 2 posted at 6:40pm. (quote) I think I found the source which is the strip heat. I opened the indoor unit panel and noticed it was a little warm in the area near the fan. I started touching the duct above it and felt even warmer. I put a thermometer in the red arrow as shown in the pic where it reads 108F. I assume this strip heat runs all the time and even when the A/C is on. (/quote) I posted this on May 2 at 5:22 am... (quote) 13 amps is a big load people. Most (new) air conditioners today when running draw less amps than this. I know this is a heat pump but if it's running in cool mode it's an AC ok? It easily could be that the strip heat section was improperly wired. Many times a series of strip heat will have multiple control wires so all the strips don't come on at once. One of these control wires may be inadvertently attached to control volt power, thus turning on the strip heat continuously as long as power is applied to the machine. (/quote) Do some quick calculation: So much for playing games. Huh? (OVER A WEEK AGO??) Yeah you're certainly not going to like this because the TRUTH, stings like a wasp....See MoreLynn-in-TX-Z8b- Austin Area/Hill Country
