Pics: My last flushes for the season
Comments (10)They're beautiful. This is so depressing, not only because it's the end but for most of us in the cooler zones the brugs are just now at peak. I hate having to chop off all the flowers, especially when it's the first buds on a plant that I haven't even seen yet. My NOL, MM and a dbl White as well as a few NOIDs all have buds that will have to go. They are inground so I can't even move them to the GH to continue blooming : (...See MoreDid Anyone's Kirimaru Peony Bloom Last Spring?

Comments (6)Zéphirine Drouhin Burgundian Rose Sophie's Perpetual Anne-Marie de Montravel And now, to say goodbye to a friend. I've had Applejack four years, but it has gotten as big and healthy as it can in a container. Last year it repeatedly sent out roots from the bottom of the pot. So, yesterday it was off the the annual plant exchange we have here in Lawrence, I think he got a good home where he can truly stretch out and grow. and yes, I'll probably get another band of it fairly soon--the fragrance is pretty unique, and fragrance is my biggest priority with roses. And now, some of the new bands that have arrived this spring. This first one I posted a few pics of in another thread, but here it is all fully blown, blued and quilled. Remember, with Catalonia, bluing and quilling are _features_, not flaws. Mountain Music, another rose I had ordered several times previously and always got the wrong one until now......See MoreTall Bearded blooms last spring
Comments (7)@irisgal: I couldn't even find an actual 'go lightly' so I assumed that it was 'holly golightly' which appears to be a solid dusky blue. Is there really such a critter? Re location & conditions: I am now in zone 7 Carolina in super clay which retains nutrients far better than my old Z9 northern CA aledged to be adobe, but has nothing to do with real clay like I have now. In CA our family had old iris that rocked along with little if any care. When I divided and added bone meal, I ended up with blooms all over. BTW, as you probably know, it doesn't rain from mid April thru mid Sept. At least now even though it might not rain for a month, the clay will hold some water for a couple weeks; and it will rain again; out there, who knows?...See MoreAnn9BNCalif
