matching chairs, matching tables...do your lamps match too ?
Comments (12)For 20 years, nothing has matched. And since I liked estate sale vintage lamps, all my lamps were different too. But about 5 years ago, I bought two matching lamps from JCPenney. It was kind of nice having the two lamps in the bedroom match, while being on unmatched antique bed tables and unmatched vintage furniture. It's like the lamps linked everything together. About 3 years ago, I found two more nice looking lamps at HomeGoods, these two with deep red shades, so I moved them into the bedroom, placing one on a rattan table also from HomeGoods, and one on a vintage sewing machine base, turned into a night table. My rattan bed was bought new off the net, my dressers bought at different times from estate sales, one is painted black and one is pecan. My mahogany desk came from a classified ad, and the leather desk chair came from Sam's Club. The two JCPenney lamps moved into the living room where they are the only two matching entities in another sea of furniture that works well together, but does not match. and that's the way I decorate.... Comments (12)I've always liked the use of mismatched dining chairs and have collected lots of pics of rooms where they've done this, BUT, and this is a huge BUT, it depends on the rest of the decor whether it will work if the chairs are quite diverse. It only works IMO in a casual, cottage, eclectic, even funky room or if the chairs are reasonably similar in style. Trying to use mismatched chairs in a more formal traditional dining room will just look like you didn't have enough chairs and borrowed more. The only time it works, again IMO, in a traditional formal room is when the chairs at the ends of the table are (usually) upholstered and the other chairs are not, but of a similar style. Painting mismatched chairs all the same color is another possibility to create unity. If you find chairs with simple clean lines I think it can work. In my casual dining area, especially when there are more than 6 people, I use some black painted chairs. The 6 chairs are oak and part of my DR set and the black chairs are painted the same as a sideboard in the adjoining kitchen so it's almost as if there are 2 'sets'. Works for me in my casual home. Check out the link below to see most of the rooms are casual, cottage, and/or eclectic altho there are a few modern and European rooms as well. Comments (17)Lutron makes something like 100 colors of outlets and switch covers. I ALWAYS try to match them to the wall color or accent color if high contrast for visibility's sake is needed. Yes, it costs a bit more than the 29 cent white ones, but it's a detail you see (or don't see!) subconsciously when evaluating a room. Just like having a stark white outlet in the middle of your wood island, sure, you can, but I wouldn't. However, if these are new outlets and you are under the gun to make a decision NOW, then just put in white and replace them later with something from Lutron. I'd also put in the wide rocker switches rather than the small flip ones. But either is easy enough to do at a later time DIY when you aren't under as much time pressure. NEVER pay to have an electrician just change out a switch or switch plate. It's about the easiest DIY imaginable....See Morefloors and paint, do they clash or match match?
Comments (12)@nuppal I still like the gray better… Especially in light of your countertops and the fireplace… And I looked up your color on Pinterest and I saw that color walls with different colored wood floors and I thought it looked nice. But as another poster said it’s all a personal preference. I personally don’t like beige walls so I guess I’m biased! Haha But the new house we’re building has wood floors and gray walls and is the Joanna Gaines type style… And its similar to yours and that we have the white quartz countertops with the gray marbling and I have white cabinets in my kitchen and white builtins in my living room. Most of our walls are gray… Different shades of gray (Mostly with blue undertones because that’s what I like)....See MoreSusan Mladenovich
