Oakley, sorry you lost your baby.

I have a different experience with the scent issue. My cat, Artie, used to sleep with me. The night before he got really sick I noticed an odd smell coming from him. Had no idea it might be a sign of what was to come.

Animals are amazing. My son's cat often sleeps with him. If the cat mews loudly enough to awaken me that means my son's blood sugar is dangerously low and it is time for a juice box.

We met a man earlier this year, who had a dog trained to detect seizures. The dog could tell that one was coming on, before he had any hint. He would know to prepare.

He said with the dog at his side, he could go fishing for the first time in years without his wife worrying.

Aok, I remember about the dog who could tell when a seizure was coming. I wonder how they train them?

Localeater, the cat is priceless. I never thought about cat's being attuned like dogs.

Thanks for the condolences. He lived a long life which always makes me feel better. I miss him following me my every waking hour thinking I'm going to drop a Tbone on the floor. lol.

I believe it dlm. Your story brought back a memory when I got my first and only migraine. The pain was the worst and my cat came and laid down on my pillow behind my head. I was asleep in a matter of minutes, woke up, threw up, and I was healed! lol

The bad part of yesterday is when DS1 took the dog to the vet and the vet said it was time, my son stayed with the dog. The dog screamed at the top of his lungs for about 5 seconds and now my son is having a hard time getting over it. Not sure what happened.

This was my son's, his kids, and DIL's dog and I ended up taking him in because DS and DIL worked all day and didn't want to leave the dog alone. I started babysitting him here, they live behind us and we just ended up keeping him full time, along with his brother who died last year and didn't have a problem when he was put down.

The grandmother of our new Australian Shepherd pup ran circles around our breeder's friend and when asked about that wondered if the friend was well and she was not. The behavior was a harbinger for a major seizure which subsequently happened. Some dogs can detect/sense cancer...The day we lost our old sweet boy he wasn't able to get up on his own and our girl laid down and pushed herself right up back to back next to him and stayed there until we carried him out to drive to the vet. Animals are amazing...

Aww, sorry for the loss of your pet. Years ago DH and I were invited to a dinner party of a new friend. The host's dog kept sniffing me, but ignoring the other guests. The second I sat down on a sofa, she began nuzzling me non stop, which everyone noticed. The owner saw what was going on and came over, to extricate the dog from me. I volunteered that I'm a dog lover and wasn't bothered at all. She smiled and whispered "But you might want her to leave. She's very sensitive to pregnant women and thinks she's protecting them, so she'll block anyone from sitting beside a mom-to-be, all night. She's done this twice before."

Well I was 3 months pregnant, not showing at all, but didn't care if my pregnancy was known. So I told the host so, and said "Let's see what she does." Sure enough, the dog would let neither DH, nor anyone else near me, so she was escorted to another room, for the evening. When several guests commented on her strange partiality to me, the host explained, and it was an unexpected and fun way to share our news! P.S. my own (also female) dog was totally oblivious and seemed shocked when we brought our new baby home, lol.

My last couple dogs have been narcissists, but my first two were very sensitive to emotions.

Blfenton, his name was Buddy, I called him Buddy boy. His brother was Gus who passed last year. I didn't mention his name for fear someone I know is reading this but it's just me being paranoid. lol

Amicus, that is so neat! If there's a next time save your money on a pregnancy test and go visit the dog. :)

I, too, am so sad to hear of your loss--It just plain sucks :(

My dog knows when I'm feeling down. Usually rambunctious, she'll come and curl up and be petted, which is often the very best therapy.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Oakley. It's never easy to have to say goodbye.

Animals know. They just know. On the day that we took our sweet Tiger kitty in to have him put down, he was resting on DH's chair and his sister Molly, who rarely cuddled with him, jumped up next to him and held her little body close to his, as though she was trying to share her own warmth and provide what comfort she could.

A number of years ago, when I was in the throes of a terrible gallstone attack that preshadowed emergency surgery, my Pip cat would lie right next to me for HOURS on end, watching me with what appeared to be concern (I swear), and every now and then he would reach out his little paw and stroke my arm or my face. I know that sounds like something I've made up, but it's true. I will never forget how that little cat behaved, and he was always special to me, but that event made him even more so.

I believe you Ida. It's like I said before, when I had my only migraine, my cat Echo laid on the pillow behind my head and it made me fall asleep.

Today the grands come over after school so I put away Buddy's bed. He and Gus were their dogs even though they lived here the past few years. Today will be the first time I've seen them since he died last Friday. The dogs were born before the kids were.

I suppose I need to put away his container of milkbones which are smaller sitting next to the container of the other dog's bones. I always left the lid off Buddy's container so the other dogs wouldn't hear me give him one in secret. lol
