ideas for window treatments for dining area

We are building a new home near the coast and have been struggling with what to do with the windows in the dining area. The ceilings are 10’ and we have seven tall windows in the dining area and one window over the sink. Also showing part of the living area with French doors and windows that open to a screened in porch. For the dining area we will get lots of morning light and afternoon light will filter in from the front windows to this area. Our home will be earth tones with a light natural oak floor, Dakota Mahogany granite counters and neutral paint. Welcome suggestions for how to create a space that allows for light and can transition to create privacy.

You May consider a natural woven shade that will tie into your counter tops. If you were to do this i would mount them on one header outside mount all the way up to the crown so that when they are pulled open they just cover the casing at the top So not to obstruct your view or light when not needed. You really don’t have room for draperies to be off the windows although i do think a white French linen drape on the outside windows would be pretty to frame it all. Consider a tortoise bamboo that would tie into your granite

I would be very hesitant to cover all those beautiful windows with drapery. Do you really need privacy in a dining room?

I would try to use tall plantings plus privacy fencing as much as possible outside to obscure the view from your neighbors. It would be sad to cover those beautiful windows. If not possible I would probably use as simple as possible pull down blinds in a color which matches your walls. Not louvered blinds though just pull down straight blinds.

L P I have the same shape and colour of table as yours, to update it a little, I bought online, 2 fabric parsons chairs, mine are in toile, off white with black lettering, I put them at each end of the table, with the original chairs on the sides. I like the look and it did imo update it. It took some searching online to get the proper height of back, cause my original chairs have a higher back. I only put on a tablecloth at mealtimes otherwise table is bare with a centerpiece. Your home is lovely, love the chandelier above your table! I would only add a shade above your kitchen window for the sun problem, no to a cloth valence, they are passe imo.

Have you thought about bottom up top down pleated blinds or honeycomb shades? Minimal in design and able to install as inside mount to a shallow depth of only 1/2 inch. Here are some client pictures and how they solved their bay window challenge.

I don’t imagine my latest suggestion much appeals to you but it occurred to me later that if you can find another place for the hutch, creating seating in that corner something like this might work for you The bench love seat doesn’t need to be an ”L”, It could be just straight across and you might be able to find one with right measurements that you can buy off the shelf. Instead of the kind of sconces shown in the photo, you could get down lights for reading. You could add an ottoman for comfort with a smaller table. In that configuration, the dining table would be centered on fireplace and cheated toward the kitchen. On the side of the fireplace where your table and chair are now located, a drinks bar might be nice, in the spirit of your Lillet poster. An upholstered armchair at the head of the dining table closest to the window (or one at each end of the table) could make it possible to have conversational seating at that far corner of the room by turning one chair at the dining table toward the seating area between the fireplace and the window.

I also think very simple solar roller shades, interior mounted, would be best for the dining area. They will disappear when not in use but give you options for light control and privacy when needed. Like this photo but mount them inside the windows.

If your living area windows open to the screened in porch you shouldn't need any treatment on those windows at all.

Some roman shades of you want to be able to have privacy or nothing if heat and UV are not issues. Solar shades if they are.

Duette shades - inside mount, bottom up/top down models, that can stack at the top of the window in about 2" of space. Pick a white color that matches your trim color.

I have used Hunter Douglas and been happy with them.

Absolutely amazing home...we did a few styles like this. You need inside mount installation for sure that preserves the style and design of the windows. Pleated or honeycomb shades will work great for your place - the light filtering fabrics soften the light and create a homey atmosphere. The flexible operation of bottom up and top down lets you manage light and privacy...
