how do I decorate this area as a sitting /reading area?
Comments (15)Once the futon is gone and then I would remove the shelf and plant from the corners and your room will seem larger. I would suggest 4 chairs around a low table. That makes for a great conversation area and for company while prep is going on in the kitchen. Maybe the table I’m seeing there now could be pushed to the island with the 3 chairs around it? Or if 4 chairs won’t fit maybe 2 larger chairs with ottomans in the corners next to the window....See MoreLooking for rug and Roman Shades color ideas for dining area...

Comments (6)Agree with others above. The current kitchen layout looks fine as is. In regards to the space next to, Depends on the user & needed future, function of the space. What function would add to the space for your use? Do you need more storage? If so, base cabinets below will be an added bonus. If you entertain, could be used as a buffet. Then above: Open shelving possible. Keep in mind, it will need to be dusted regularly. Glass cabinets with glass shelving & lighting on a dimmer are nice, if want to display items inside. Frosted glass if want ambience lighting without displaying items within. Regular cabinets an option as well. A non-permanent option is furniture to change as life changes....See MoreWhat do you think of this idea for my awkward dining area?
Comments (6)My wishlist for the room includes a cozy area to sit and have drinks with friends like we are in a nice bar. Playing up the bar atmosphere. Maybe a twinkle ceiling with narrow spot lights, champagne bucket stand... fun stuff like that is not visible during the day. If it is for the rare sit down dinner then I'd use an expandable console as a table in front of the banquette/bench. Never any kids. Other possible uses for the room would be to sit in the morning with my laptop reading and drinking coffee... maybe with a small TV on the wall opposite the bench to watch the news. Last but not least a place to organize bills and a little bit of file storage... I wouldn't call it an office. The maximum width of bench is 9 feet wall to wall so its not huge. Here's a couple pictures to orient you. First is the view from the back corner. That's a huge pantry you can see. I'm losing the door and door frame on the right and the top will be flush with the ceiling. actually the ceiling can be raised as all the duct work is removed. The second pic is a view from the bench... down the hall to the guest room with the first door being the powder room....See Morebtydrvn
