My go to is Pandora, I like how you can create a station and they offer songs I’ve never heard before and usually like.

Hopefully, you have installed the Amazon Alexa app, be sure to take advantage of everything offered (shopping lists!!).

If if you like a certain artist, Alexa can play songs by that artist just by asking. (Some music may just be a sample, but Amazon has a huge selection that includes the entire song.)

Many radio stations will play just by asking it to play a certain station.

I do ask Alexa to play Jewel 92 which is a local station. That's the only local station I listen to........older songs/easy listening stuff.

I tried asking her to play country as an example and she couldn't. I don't know if I have to go thru the Alexa App to ask for anything, or if I have to physically install music stations etc.

It's a whole WIP for me......I'm really not cell-phone savvy. My neighbour has a Google Mini and she told me she went out and bought a timer. I told her that her Mini could be her timer!

I just asked my Echo; “Alexa, play some country music.“.

In San Francisco, I used to listen to KUSF (from University of San Francisco) but now I mostly listen to KXLU (Loyola Marymount Unverisity) in Westchester, where I live now.

it it plays directly from Amazon Music. using the Amazon Alexa app, go to Settings, then pick Music and check to see if Amazon Music is selected. Truthfully, it’s been so long since I set up our Alexa I can’t remember if it was automatic or if I had to turn it on. There are no additional charges when playing from Amazon Music.

I’m sorry. I have Prime and its included with no other fees. (I forget that everyone doesn’t have Prime.) You may want to check and see if Prime would be good for your needs.

As maddie suggested, open Alexa app, scroll to settings, then Music, choose Link a New Service and follow instructions.

Even if you're not a Prime member, you can still link to free Spotify, Pandora, iHeart Radio, etc. After choosing a service, make it your default and Alexa will always play from there.

Ask Alexa to tell you a joke.

For crying out loud, I just created an account with Spotify and at the end it told me I have to have a Premium account to use Spotify with Alexa. Yet spotify was one of the ones to choose. I'm getting frustrated.

The Alexa App has Amazon Music as it's default music source, which is why I realize Alexa can't find any music that I request, since I don't have Amazon Prime.

I have to figure out how to install streaming sites via url, and I'm not sure how to do that.

Jasdip, try the free pandora. It works well with Alexa. I always say alexa golden oldies, pandora, or country music pandora, and she plays nicely. You do have to set it up after you load the app, on your alexa app.

I was gifted an Echo Dot. I got a 3.99/month music subscription plan for it. I've used it it to play a particular artist MANY times. Now, when I tell it to play "music I like" it plays a shuffle of all the artist I've played (maybe 30 now?) The Dot speaker isn't that great and doesn't get very loud. I've bluetoothed it into my terrific portable speaker.

Good for you Jas...I tend to get the weather each day and evening from my Google-love the timers and alarms on mine for various things.
