How do you provide cool soil for cilantro?
Comments (19)Yes, what I meant is that I have used the immature seeds, right after flowering, wanting cilantro and not coriander seeds, and found that if you grind them up it is a blend of both tastes, and can be still used in salsa fresca quite nicely. I have myself recently frozen two quart size zip lock bags with chopped fresh cilantro. It will probably disappoint me on salsa fresca but I am hoping it is OK for cooked salsa, or any cooked stews that do use cilantro. I am well aware that coriander seed produced cilantro. I have been using seed (coriander for cooking) from the 4 oz bags I get at middle eastern and indian shops, and that is sold as coriander seed. They are really inexpensive and I used them for the fast bolting one, to get the cilantro flowers. I make a special effort to give flowers for the winter crew of bees. It seems to be paying off so far, and most of my cilantro is now either seeding or flowering, or giving up the ghost.....time to sprout the basil now....See MoreHow do I store Cilantro?
Comments (6)Chop it like parsley, and store it frozen in small 'pancakes', from which pieces can then be broken off without resorting to hammer and chisel. Separate 'pancakes' with plastic wrap. In my experience, coriander (I can't bring myself to call it cilantro!) loses flavour on drying, so I wouldn't bother....See MoreWhat would you do if you had to replace this wall?
Comments (11)Vjrnts - This picture is pre-fire. And yes, I was heartsick. I'm trying not to be now, but at 80+ years old, I guess it is time to build a new one. I should let you know that the exterior is still standing and perfectly intact. It's just there is so much structural damage inside that this wall will have to come down. I know it will never look like the original, but we're attempting to infuse the new one with age. The history is this: it was one of the first homes up in the Lookout Mtn Park section of Laurel Canyon. It was built to replicate the Frankenstein castle in the original black and white move. The black and white Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was partially shot in the caves in the back yard. I bought it from the original owner's son, and we intend it pass the property onto our son as well. It's really kind of funky by today's building standards. But it was much loved and has been lived in by a number of stellar talents. Here's a pic of the living room:...See MoreReplacing three way switches, how would you do this?
Comments (5)If that doesn't work then your other easy options: Disconnect the wires with the power off and make sure they aren't touching and then use a mutimeter or volt meter and you can get a good idea as well by testing the wires for voltage. You have to be careful with this method as your dealing with live lines but due diligence will get you through it just fine. Option two if you don't like playing with live wires is buying or using a length of wire the distance between the outlets. Assuming they are in the kitchen you shouldn't need more then a 20 foot chunk of wire. Disconnect the switches after labeling the wire and attach one of the wires to your new chunk of wire. Take a multimeter or ohm meter and attach it the new wire and then test each wire separately. One of them will read 0.00 and the rest will be read nothing and give you a 0L reading. Your 0.00 is the other end of your wire. This method will take you five minutes to trace out each switch. If you have a really long distance between switches it clearly is impractical but in this situation it is the quickest solution unless you are a good guesser....See More- 7 years ago
