36" Gas Cooktops - GE Cafe vs Bosch?

Hi, we are currently mixing-and-matching appliances for our full-ground-floor reno.

We are 90% sure about our wall ovens (GE Cafe French Door X 2, Monogram Advantium) and fridge (LG Instaview), but are a bit loss regarding cooktops as we have always had a range.

Balancing functions and budget, GE Cafe and Bosch seem to be good candidates. Would love to hear about your experience - open to suggestions too of course.

We are in Canada BTW, so some makes and models may differ.

I have very strong opinions against the GE Cafe line. I’ve commented on it a few times here but the summary is 4 of 4 needed multiple service calls with in the first few months. I was successful in getting GE to finally take back the dual fuel range and the dishwasher. I thought I had succeed but failed on returning the convection microwave and fridge. The fridge still has the same problems after the warranty expired and the microwave is on a shelf.

The poor repairman who was here at least twice a month said mine was not an unusual situation in his experience.

Parts arrived randomly at my house from different counties and were backordered once something became a known issue. I realize that is sort of how parts orders work.

I hope you have much better luck than we did.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Definitely sounds like a terrible experience and I hope you now have a functioning kitchen!

I did read about the problem with GE cafe fridge and have decided against it. Dishwasher - Bosch is really fab.

i have the 36" DCS drop in gas cooktop-- have had it for ~ 5-6yrs. we could not easily put in a hood above our island cooktop (existing- we just replaced cooktop) so we put in a dcs pop-up fan- just needed to get the granite cut to fit it since the cooktop that was there was a jennair down draft... i love the cooktop--- has worked without any issues since we got it and simmers extremely well. i chose it because i liked it's appearance best when compared to similarly priced 36" cooktops!! (i specifically liked the grates better than the kitchenaid and bosch, which is the 3 i narrowed it down to.) the fan is just fair,(better than the downdraft tho!) but i don't do alot of frying at high temps which might result in alot of smoke or grease.

I went with the Profile double-oven gas: here are my reasons. I like the smaller-size top oven for daily use, and the lower oven will only be used on occasion, so I'm ok with its location. (There's no room for a wall oven in my tiny kitchen -- and I have no plans to tear out cabinets and rearrange.) I'm a good cook, and I honed my skills on low-end domestic ranges because that's what was available: I don't need a commercial range to cook what I like, and I'm too busy with other aspects of my life to change my cooking style now. I also prefer not to deal with "pro" level BTUS and the ventilation complications they might add. I also am not willing to give up self-cleaning ovens -- which puts many pro-style ranges out of contention. I liked the slide-in setup and the angled control-knob location on the Profile, so that, and the price advantage, led me to choose it over the Cafe. Re: price, I bought mine from a local dealer, and I got the price down a bit by asking them to meet the ajmadison.com price. They didn't quite get there, but I was willing to pay a little extra for local sales/delivery/service reliability. Everyone's situation is a little different, but I found that the Profile slide-in fits best with my kitchen and the way I use it.

The Samsung NA36N7755TS (HD, AC) is a Consumer Reports top-rated gas cooktop. CR tested the 30" Bosch NGM8056UC but downgraded it (only) due to its high-heat performance (good). The 36" NGM8656UC (AC) appears to be nearly identical except for size. Per CR, Bosch's predicted reliability is rated excellent.

Which one did you choose? How have you liked it? We are choosing between the same 2 brands for cooktops as well.
