I love Christmas music in stores during that season. (And i listen to it year round) Other than that,I dislike music in public places when they play it so loud. Music preference is so personal. I don't like when stores BLAST the flavor of the month teeny bopper music over the speakers. Why does it have to be so loud? Last time i was in Target SO called me and he said he couldn't hear me talking over the music in the background. Its ridiculous.

I have read that music playing is some sort of trick. For example, if soft,slow music is played in a restaurant, the patrons are more likely to linger and spend more money. And supposedly,upbeat,louder, fast music puts one in a better mood and they are therefore more likely to act on impulse,therefore spending more money. Which is why they play the teeny bopper stuff in retail stores.

I don't know why church music would be so loud..... Maybe they want to make sure the Big Guy can hear it too?! ;op

Ear plugs may work well for those within the normal range of hearing but they pretty much useless for the deafened with recruitment. We would have to wear expensive (not the cheap bargain ones) noise canceling headphones. Plus we would need additional technology (bluetooth connectivity) to our hearing aid(s) to carry on a conversation with anyone requiring them to wear a mic (more $$) that can be linked to whatever system we are using. Ear plugs change the sound often making it worse than ever. With good hearing aids costing around 3000.00 each and additional tech adding several hundred or even a thousand more this is out of many people's financial ability. Considering many are seniors or disabled who live on limited incomes who often depend on cheap devices we need to advocate for the hearing impaired as well as for the prevention of hearing loss for the younger generation.

What the general hearing public does not understand is that most deafness, even profound deafness is not quiet. It is the brain trying to make sense of sound, not the complete inability to hear. Hence a TV or music being played low in the background indoors can often be worse than loud music played outdoors.

Went to Red Robin once. Will not go back. Too loud. Plenty of other places get my business!

We went to a restaurant once that was so loud that even shouting I couldn’t hear my SisIL sitting next to me. The food wasn’t so awesome we had any inclination to return.

A church that provides earplugs is pretty weird. They know there is a problem, don't they?

I've heard that when restaurants play up-tempo music, it encourages patrons to eat more quickly, thus freeing up the table for future diners sooner.

Music has been a lifelong love/pastime of mine and I prefer listening to music loud. I can normally have it loud at a live show or when alone in a car or when home alone or in a room away from others. I HATE background music of any kind, not just when out, because for me listening to music is something that requires that I concentrate on it and to try to do something else at the same time leaves me unable to do either.

In public places, if it's music I like, it's fine at whatever volume. If it's music I don't like, I find it annoying.

Music is usually only to be found in casual restaurants and since so many restaurants can be too loud with people's voices otherwise, or in addition, it doesn't bother me. When it's so loud it interrupts conversation, I'll ask that it be turned down.

The worst music I've had to listen to was in gyms, and I stopped going to some of them because they played loud music that I hated.

I also hate Christmas music of any kind. My back yard has some light freeway and airport noise, but that does not bother me at all. I do like soft background white noise because I have severe tinnitus, and if I am in a place that is too quiet, the ringing in my ears really bothers me. I've had this problem since I was a small child, and I grew up on a farm that was way too quiet. The main noise I remember as a child was coyotes, and that scared me. I also used to hear voices coming from the fireplace in my bedroom as a child, and they were always threatening to kill me.

I've not noticed loud music at any restaurants that I go to - maybe I need to get out more.

Long ago when I was trying out a gym it was sensory overload. They had loud pop music playing over the speakers, then you had the TVs over the cardio equipment that people had blaring so that they could hear it over both the music and the machine, AND there were various workout rooms where aerobics or dance classes were being conducted, all playing different music with the instructor yelling so that the participants could hear them. Usually I can tune out annoyances, but that was too much. I tried to go back at slower times, but it didnt last long.

When I am walking for exercise, I like to listen to my Christmas playlist or sometimes I will listen to a video on YouTube. Or, if I want a more serene setting to wind down while I walk, I listen to an audiobook.

I keep a pair of "hear-o's" in my purse and don't hesitate to use them anytime, anywhere ... they are earplugs designed to reduce volume. Things don't sound muffled like with solid foam plugs. They aren't cheap but they last a long time. Google "high fidelity ear plugs" if interested.

Another place that blasts sound WAY TOO LOUD is movie theaters.

I use my fingers to plug my ears when an emergency vehicle zoom by, sirens screaming. I don't care if I look silly or not.

If I'm trying a new restaraunt and I walk in and the noise level is too high, I walk right out. And don't return. There are SOOOO many restaraunts , and I will patronize the ones I can have a conversation in.
