HVX Alert for the Northeast
Comments (39)I tested two hosta that looked just like those in the photos but worse. I would have bet money that they were infected with HVX but both tested clean. I used the test strips from Agdia the control showed just like it was supposed to but nothing came up on the positive test line. I would really like to find someone with a infected plant so I could see if my test strips are really working. The plants in question had multiple symptoms including ink bleed, puckering, distortion and split coloration on single leaves. It was my understanding that plants which exhibited many of these symptoms would be in advanced stages of infection and should test positive, am I mistaken. Could it take years? I am in disbelief of my results at this point, of course I was relieved that they were clean, but I am still skeptical . The plants were in a retail situation one was Sum & sub. Is it possible that something else is going on with this cultivar. Could it be particularly sensitive to iron or mag. deficiency or over fertilization. I suppose it could be a different virus. Comments (42)t-bird, surgery is 1/31. On the list: Everything! (But we've painted most of what has to be painted, so my job, unlike yours, is just getting rid of stuff and cleaning every surface, like an old-fashioned spring cleaning.) We're empty-nesters so there are no kids' rooms to clean or kids to give attention and time to. Kitchen is about 90% done, foyer (only a little coat closet and some tile and the front door) is done. Workout room was just painted and is finished except for the closet, which is full of old political-campaign paraphernalia I need to box up or get rid of, and I don't really care much if I get to that or not. Downstairs too is my office, which is a sea of papers, and a TV room and guest bath. Upstairs I have the LR, dining area, and MB, along with 1 1/2 baths. So I may be able to get all of this done. I move very slowly because of my knee, so it takes a while. I'm not going to stress about it; whatever I get done will be better than what it was before I started. Storage area in basement and garage will probably wait until later. I'll join you in a 2012 cleanup project. Mine will be to finish up whatever I haven't done, if anything, before I go to the hospital, and then to keep things in order. I'm the messy one and DH is very neat. Good luck to both of us, t-bird. And may we enjoy the process!...See MoreDigital "Spring Cleaning"
Comments (30)I have much sympathy for you. I have just been organizing my email after being guilted by visiting relatives who were horrified at my 24000 emails. I had tried to organize it before but have had more success this time by creating files and moving stuff I need to save to those files and then deleting what's left. For ex I'll do a search for anything with our schools name, move all those to the school file. Once I was pretty sure I'd moved everything of importance I deleted everything that was left in my inbox. The panic I felt doing this made me realize I was a bit of an electronic hoarder. And to be honest my hoarding helped after our house fire. When insurance questioned that the chandelier cost as much as it did, I was able to pull up the emailed invoice from RH that was probably ten years old. I had to do this many times as I order a lot online and insurance wants to give you the Walmart equivalent unless you can prove otherwise. Kind of felt vindicated for my hoarding. But really did need to get it under control. You've inspired me to tackle pics next....See MoreAnother rant alert..too much on my plate
Comments (34)PK, my heart goes out to you, it’s no fun to be pulled in a hundred different directions. I’m sorry your hubby hurt himself and am glad he’s going to be ok, what a nightmare. I can relate to the cooking issue because my DH has a very specific diet plan he has to stick to. I’ll spend hours putting together a weeks worth of lunches and they’re 1/2 gone before the week even starts!!! Is there anyway they can prescribe a different medication? Or maybe you can get take out? Pizza? As for the commute, the first thing I thought of was the job offer you posted about a few weeks ago. I think this short period of having to commute just confirms it was a good thing that they chose someone else. I’m glad you posted so we could send some warm (((hugs))) your way. It’s a shame that we all live in different parts of the country. I truly believe that if the folks here lived closer to each other, we’d pull together like a villiage to help each other out....See MoreP O
