Design Dilemma dining room living room

What type of kitchen table/island to put? How to furnish rest of room

Recently moved into an apartment with open living room/kitchen layout. I’ve already added some things (sofa, TV, storage unit) however I’m stuck now on dining table or kitchen island. The place is small so I don’t want to add too much/clutter things up, but want to make it cozy. Below are a few pictures! If I do island, the blue tape on the floor is where I’m thinking to put the island which would need to be 55/60 inches by 30 inches... Any tips, suggestions or links to islands/tables would be sooo appreciated. Open to also any additional recommendations.

I suggest a smaller island that offers storage on one side and space for a stool on the other side. This one is from Canadian Tire. It's about 47" x 31". Lowes in the USA will have something similar.

Room amd Board makes a great table/island that is customizable - 3 sizes, 29 kinds of tops, myriad colors. This one is 60x30. I picked a color close to your cabinets and floor. It would give you extra cooking/counter space and eating space. I like that it is open, which will make an island seem more spacious and less crowded in this room.

I could imagine it moving to a lot of different apartments with you over time and being used as an island, table, desk, entryway piece. Super versatile.

If it isn’t in your price range, other companies might make less expensive ones. Nice apartment by the way.

I like kurn’s top picture. Yes I am thinking of not doing tv here (entertainment/guest room in basement area instead). Should I do builtins on either side of the small fireplace? (Like your top picture? Going for a more modern look in general.

I think the best place for the tv is to the left of the fireplace. Because of the large opening on the left, chairs would be better on the right. I want to be honest with you: there are challenging angles in the room and having the extra angles where the wood is, just makes it more challenging. What do you think of putting the wood bin under the window and then filling in the angled area. Is there a carpenter in the house? The cabinets on the left side look nice.

How do you furnish a small room that is a living room/kitchen combo?

You gotta draw it on graph paper, and then cut out pieces the size of an apartment couch, etc., and move them around. My first idea is couch facing windows with a cafe table behind the couch, and TV in the corner. You could also try couch floating with it's back to the fridge wall and bedroom hallway, and a TV on the bottom wall with a dropleaf table there too (chairs on left and top sides). It might be more flexible to try arranging 2-3 small armchairs instead of a couch, as easier to allow walkways and still have a conversational arrangement possible...

It is not the main living room. They also have a light fixture in the area between the kitchen and living room where I suppose the dining table was. I like the idea of the dining table in the corner because if I put it under the light fixture, it leaves the whole sunroom empty.

If it were me, I would choose a dining table over an island - since your sofa is lower, i think the room will flow better and it invites sitting down and hanging out, which is cozy

Is it just you in the apartment? Do you have friends over often? How much cooking do you do? I would do an island with storage on the kitchen side and seating on the living side.

This one fits the space criteria and would allow you to have seating on both sides of island. Get backless stools and then simply tuck them underneath when not in use. This one is from Bob's Discount Furniture. (60 x 30" x 37"h)

Emily's wins. Great that their is actually space to push in a stool and have your legs go underneath when you are sitting on it. Perfect that you can use it on both sides too.

I vote for a round pedestal table. It’s great to be able to pull in additional chairs when needed for a gathering.
