Comments (9)I am near you - about 3 hours from Galveston in east Texas. I love my Tess. I have her on a huge fan shaped trellis - she has very healthy foliage and lots of nice blooms. Two of my favorite Austins are Carding Mill and Abe Darby. Wollerton Old Hall, new for me last year, does get really big, don't find the blooms fragrant like Austin says, but they are pretty. Sophy's Rose is a really good one - healthy foliage, lots of big pretty deep pink blooms. Bishop's Castle is good. Lady of Shallot looks to be big. I have quite a few new ones that are healthy and growing - they will do better next year. Great big for me are James Galway and Scepter d'Isle - like them a lot. I have Lady Emma and Munstead Wood planted where they get full sun until 2pm - hope they like it there. I really like Ambridge Rose too. Love the blooms on Jude......mine is very small though. I am getting another Young Lycadis - my chickens were scratching in that bed and killed it. The color is a different, brighter looking pink that I really like. Englands Rose was new for me last year - it started off looking and blooming fantastically.....then it starting dawdling around. Am hoping it will get going again in the spring - it was really nice. I want to try Princess Alexandra of Kent - have heard good things about it. Do any of you all plan to try the new Austins? I want Boscobel, The Lark Ascending.......not sure about the others. caldonbeck, the photos are fabulous! Judith...See MoreAustin's Boscobel & Endeavor reviews ?
Comments (37)sultry - thank you for your kind comments. I agree that ORA blooms a lot and the blooms last a long time. Her first year, ORA through out long canes but after moving her, she has remained a short rose. She seems to have put the energy into blooming instead of growing which is ok. Here's a photo of the same shrub two years ago. The spray in the rear is from the same plant in the foreground, it was wider and taller initially. I believe the roots were damaged in the move and she hasn't quite recovered. noseometer - you might try ORA. She seems to stand up to a lot of adversity without much of a problem. Here's a collage I did a year ago. Not as fragrant as Sharifa but the petals have more substance making her a tougher rose than SA. Ann...See MoreReasons to Add Princess Anne to your 2019 list :)
Comments (24)I replied to your other thread Ann because I saw that one first. My Princess Anne’s blooms definitely last more than a day but I am not certain how long. I am also sure they last longer in cooler weather. Helen is on the money with her answer. Here all my David Austins bloom a lot but the individual blooms don’t last very long. I grow iceberg as well tho, and she blooms in the same manner, many blooms with short life. I do not think Princess Anne‘s blooms last any less than iceberg here. Severe_novice: Olivia has a good base life for an Austin and actually it seems to hold on to her petals some on the bush (that is usually the way). Self cleaning blooms usually done last as long....See MoreDA Princess Anne Rose Question
Comments (7)This is the second year I have Princess Anne. The blooms on mine last pretty long for an Austin, probably on average 5 - 6 days. Even during its first year it lasted quite a few days and never shattered within a day. I have strong wind here in my SF Bay micro-climate, very often between 15 - 20 mph during the spring and summer, and I have to say that Princess Anne's blooms stay pretty well. Also the branches are strong and don't break as easily as PAoK. Perhaps give it some time and see if it will improve with age. Another question is whether you got the right rose. From the picture it is hard for me to tell. My Princess Anne can age to almost a purple color after a few days....See MoreReb Z6-KS
