This bird came to us through my husband's family. I first remember seeing it in the 1980's, and being told it was from a great-aunt's house. My guess is that it's at least 60 years old, but not more than 80 (do you agree?). It's a cute thing and I love its colors. I recently saw a duplicate vase but it was much more crudely painted, so it got me wondering. How common were these vases? The back is stamped "made in Japan" -- were these imported already colored and glazed, or did people buy them to paint and finish in a ceramics class, maybe? Also, do they hold water for fresh flowers? the interior doesn't seem waterproof to me.

I've no interest in selling this item, just curious about it and the relatives who might have known more are deceased.
