I would not have allowed my children to have these. This is dark and unhealthy. Sickening, actually.

I'm not interested in clicking on the link since it says "cult of the weird". I'm not into weird. Some people are. They're merely different. I assume their kids grow up in the middle of what mainstream considers weird, and are used to it.

While it is a bit weird, I did have a niece go to mortuary science school at the age of 19 which is pretty much still a kid. She probably would have loved these, since she was interested in this field at a young age. I wouldn't call it disgusting. With so many people opting for cremation these days, it's natural that kids would have questions.

I think more adult lego collectors will be buying those than children will. I see nothing wrong with it. It's part of life.........er............death.

I don't really see anything wrong with it. A lot of kids are exposed to a loved ones "ashes" and it has to be explained somehow. Not all kids will accept more vague explainations and I think it's better for kids to talk to their parents instead of Googling it. Those pictures would be a lot more illustrative than legos.

Of course it won't be appropriate for all kids, like many other things, and it's up to the parents to make that judgement.

It's not something I would have bought, but I don't see anything wrong with it either. Death is a part of life.

Although they do seem to be odd legos considering children play with them, I wasn’t thinking they were offensive either. The car had me chuckling!

If it's given to a child,I think an adult should be there to answer any question they may ask. It can be a learning experience.

PS ... I saw a kid's book at the Goodwill titled "My best friend is dead". The kids have to learn about it sooner or later.

Yea, I just sort of waited until the issue presented itself. Unfortunately, it was at a pretty young age. We loved Dylan so deeply. His mom died unexpectedly in kindergarten. That was a teaching "moment", for a very long time. There are others, but I'm not sure hiding death and the processes are the best idea, or shoving them into it full force is the best idea. BUT, that's how I feel about raising my child.

Only one I cringed at was the crematorium but only because I could see a certain segment of the young population trying to build one and experimenting with animals. These would be no different than toy airplanes or cars that you have to put together. I have friends if they were available that would use them as Halloween decorations.

Its creepy, but someone is going to buy these, but not me. The best way to rid the market of these is for sales to flop.

I suppose these are no worse than some gravestones I have seen in early cemeteries. Have you seen the death masks carved on some of these? In fact, the era of early grave stones can be estimated by the design of its death mask. This decoration changed with the times until disappearance.

I think the third comment there says it all. I am in complete agreement with that comment and could not say it better.

Some parents do have the maturity, compassion and empathy to use these as learning tools for their kids in given situations. Tools like these could be very helpful, especially for curious, mature children who are facing the death of a loved one, or themselves, and want to understand the future. It’s best to share the truth and being to share an illustration like this is helpful. Death, loss and grief are life skills that children should learn to handle from family and close friends first, then only need the help of a therapist if they have an extreme problem that isn’t resolved in a healthy and reasonable time period.

Sadly, the only thing kids are taught about Memorial & Remembrance day is that there are all kinds of sales in stores.

Here Memorial Day here rather than going to decorate graves is more of a holiday to celebrate the beginning of summer. Always several fireworks displays and a couple of large craft fares with music. Remembrance day is seldom acknowledged. You used to at least see some people wearing poppies. Even the VFWs in this area stopped selling them. Last year because there was a commemoration at the WWI memorial I did see one person selling them in front of Walmart but that was all. I remember them being sold for several weeks so people would be able to wear them.

From my own experience, kids are not taught much about death in our society and as a result a death can be very anxiety provoking for them. Many adults, too, are uncomfortable visiting the dying because talking about the subject is not part of their everyday experience. Other cultures incorporate death as a more matter of fact part of life.

While some families differ, it seems that in both school and home, subjects like death, sex, and money are taboo and not discussed, but they are the very subjects that give many people difficulty.

I wish I'd had a set like this for my ownself and for my boys. I was never included in any of the plans for funerals or anything like that when I was growing up because like Lucille said, it was a forbidden topic.

When my favorite uncle died, I was finally aloud to help with funeral planning when I was 55. It was mind boggling what all went on and I was so surprised at some of the things that had to be decided on and chosen and all that.

Saying this lego set is disgusting is also disgusting. Not allowing kids to see and understand death and all it's requirements and stuff is cruel. Death is simply a part of life.

Death isn't just a part of life, but it's the only absolute in life, no matter who you are.

That's for sure, Chi. It kinda delights me that we all end up with an ending on this Earth, no matter what. :)

At age 9, I experienced the sudden death of my stepfather (airplane crash). Shortly after that, a schoolmate was killed in a car crash. In high school, we lost 3 classmates, 2 on motorcycles and one from asthma. DS 1 lost several classmates in high school from dirt bikes and car accidents. DS 2 lost his great grandmother and her granddaughter the same day. Their father (my ex) was killed in an airplane accident. And, we have lost pets.

There were always family and friends around us for support. I guess it’s too much to assume that every child is comforted and helped to understand. I still think that whole set is totally out of line and certainly doesn’t convey the real horrible feelings of loss. By the way, I think that the comment above about possibly harming animals is spot on.

I just think it depends on the child. Each child is different, and will respond to and process death in different ways. Some might find comfort in religion and the idea of heaven and others might find comfort in science and the facts of death. Others might need to be sheltered from the harsh realities a bit more until they are older.

I don't think I would have liked the set as a child but I bet my fact-oriented DH would have.
