Best Deal You've Ever Gotten For a Plant?
Comments (42)All of these are great deals! But I may have gotten the deal of a lifetime. Last year after Christmas I was in a big box store when several TC caught my eye. Of course I was hoping for an after Christmas deal and I found one. I brought a plant over to the cashier and asked the price. Her voice and face shower great surprise "2 cents!" There were 8", 6", and 4" pots. I'm not going to tell you how many I bought for my 56 cents! Talk about a problem trying to sneak them into the house without DH catching on. They are beginning to bloom again now. Karen...See MoreWhat are the best books you've ever read?
Comments (57)So many books I have loved and lost myself into. I still love the classics like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Great Expections, Wuthering Heights, Little Women and can reread them over and over again. Jane Eyre is probably my favourite of those books and I read my Mom's hardcover from her childhood once a year. A Tree Grow in Brooklyn is another favourite. Terry Brook's Sword of Shannara Books and other series of his as well. Same for David Eddings. I like Fantasy books about wizards, dwarves, etc. I read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Trilogy when I was young and loved those books so much that I couldn't bring myself to watch the Lord of the Rings movies. I didn't want the movie to take away what my imagination saw in those books. My brother bought me the boxed set when we were kids and even to this day no gift he has ever given me (well the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer comes pretty darn close) will mean as much to me. I wouldn't lend them to anyone else to read. Another book I read when I was a teenager was called Tregaryn's Daughter. I can't even remember now what it was about but I remember really enjoying it and when reading it this picture of where they lived really stuck in my mind. My friend's Mom had a picture hanging in her living room and that picture is almost identical to what I imagined in my mind. I have never looked on line but I have never been able to find that book again to reread and I really want to. Maybe it won't be as good as I remember. Another favourite book of mine was The Outsiders. I must have read that book over 100 times. I knew exactly where it was in the library. Years later that book was on my niece's schools requirerd reading list. I told her I had read that book many times and could recite every word of it to her. I wouldn't watch the movie made from that book either because it couldn't be as good as the book was. Another book was called the Pig Man that I read and reread many times. Years later it went by another name but I read it when it was called the Pig Man. I can't remember who the author was. I don't read as much as I would like because of the lighting in my house. I need to get a better lamp to read by. I miss reading and getting lost in a good book. Anne...See MoreSeen any current movies (in the theater) lately?
Comments (12)Sat, we went to the Alamo Draft House and saw Oz, the Great and Powerful. If you've never been to an Alamo Draft House, you are missing a wonderful treat. Instead of all the ads most theaters show before the lights go down, they showed trailers and clips from many different Oz based movies, inclucing a wonderful old silent film. It really got us in the mood for the movie. While we were watching those, a waiter came and took our order. We got a huge metal bowl of popcorn, that had free refills, and two large sodas that were also neverending...AND we never had to leave our seats to get them! Oh, later, I also ordered three fresh baked cookies. You can order complete meals including adult beverages. As the name implies, yes, they have MANY beers available. The movie itself was very fun. Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie of all time, and OZ was very good. Did the same black and white in Kansas, color in Oz thing. I don't think there was a thing about it that disappointed me. The BEST part about our evening out was, it only cost us a little over $10 for the whole thing!! We had passes for the movie, and a $10 voucher for food and drinks!...See MoreFunniest kitchen thread
Comments (32)No really, laugh it up. I have to laugh every time I walk in there to keep from crying, or taking a sledgehammer to the entire room. We had to have a sitter for the two oldest girls because we weren't sure if it was even safe to walk around the house. I took the worst pots and pans I had and some very basic food and my husband and I camped out on the living room floor while we cleaned things up. We had to sleep with the doors and windows open because of all the cleaner fumes mixed with the smell of old house. The first night we had 4 stray dogs come in the house looking for food! It took a few weeks before we would actually let the girls inside. The exposed wiring has been removed and there is now an actual light fixture in there. The walls are still yellow, with both borders and the yellow plaid wallpaper....See Moreprairiefox
