Seen any current movies (in the theater) lately?

My daughter, granddaughter, and I were planning to see The Big Wedding when it came out, which it did last week. But the reviews are uniformly horrid. I don't put too much importance on critics' opinions, but I don't think I've ever seen reviews this bad. The New York Post gave it zero stars!

The movie entitled 42 sounds like it might be good. Also A Place Beyond the Pines. Although I was hoping for a comedy, or at least something light.

There are quite a few DH wants to see (he loves to go to the movies), but we haven't been at all this month. The last movie we saw was Host, in March. We listened to the audiobook first. I must say, this is one of the rare instances in which I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book.

After a string of five movies in five weeks...all excellent, I haven't been to the movies in months...This was back in the Silver lining Playbook , Argo time frame. Nothing since appeals to me.

We went to see a few action movies lately...the second Pirates of the Carribean and Miami Vice. Both very very good. My girlfriend and I went out the other day and went to You, Me and Dupree. Not as good. Funny, silly and stupid but lighthearted and we enjoyed it. Today (Aug 6) was the first year wedding anniversary for my daughter and her husband. Since it is their 'paper' anniversary when we went to the movies I bought 2 extra tickets and presented them with those pieces of paper when they came into the theatre. We went to a 'chick flick', John Tucker Must Die. A silly, teenage girl movie. We thought it was definitely for teenage girls. But we (my DH and I and the anniversary couple) enjoyed it. Watched most of the ones stated earlier... LOVED Autumn Rush... watched it a couple of times. LOVED Amelia.... was really really good. Don't know how they painted on all her freckles! tee hee. LOVED Avitar. Want to see it again and then buy it when it comes out. He is just not that into you was kinda funny. Journey to the center of the earth was kinda good too. Will watch it again. Old ones.... Abyss. Very very good. Not scary at all. Kinda liked Twilight. Will watch it again to see if I can get it better. Multiplicity.... LOVE that.... And Big. Love just about anything with Tom Hanks in it. So many good movies.

For anyone who's still reading, I'm pretty sure this is what I'm going to get. Sorry, have to post 3 separate pics. The shade color on the island fixture and sconces will be the same (beigey linen shown on the first pic) and all metal finishes will be the same (same finish as first pic, Dark Smoke).

Any good Netflix movies lately?

We couldn't see what Netflix offered without joining. Once we could see the titles, we found very few titles of interest -- that we had not already seen! Our home library has more recent titles than Netflix. Amazon showed us what's on offer before we signed up. We found recent episodes of two TV programs we wanted to see: "The Americans" Season 3; "The Knick" Season 2. They have "Doc Martin" Season 7, but we can get that once we're home. We looked into streaming because we are on Maui and running out of titles of interest that we can rent for $1.50 from Redbox here. Movies we've enjoyed here from Redbox: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Black Mass Burnt The Runner Bridge of Spies Truth 99 Homes The Maui library had: Black Swan The Gift Love and Other Drugs There are more titles of interest to us on Amazon, but our home library also has them now. We currently have enough 'stock' via Amazon to keep us entertained until we go home end of March. We record PBS offerings, but current series are available via Amazon too.

Sat, we went to the Alamo Draft House and saw Oz, the Great and Powerful.

If you've never been to an Alamo Draft House, you are missing a wonderful treat. Instead of all the ads most theaters show before the lights go down, they showed trailers and clips from many different Oz based movies, inclucing a wonderful old silent film. It really got us in the mood for the movie. While we were watching those, a waiter came and took our order. We got a huge metal bowl of popcorn, that had free refills, and two large sodas that were also neverending...AND we never had to leave our seats to get them! Oh, later, I also ordered three fresh baked cookies. You can order complete meals including adult beverages. As the name implies, yes, they have MANY beers available.

The movie itself was very fun. Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie of all time, and OZ was very good. Did the same black and white in Kansas, color in Oz thing. I don't think there was a thing about it that disappointed me.

The BEST part about our evening out was, it only cost us a little over $10 for the whole thing!! We had passes for the movie, and a $10 voucher for food and drinks!

I haven't seen 42 but have friends who have and said it was wonderful. I would also like to see The Great Gatsby.

We saw the digitally remastered "The Best of Both Worlds: Part 1 and Part 2" on Thursday. One day only, though, so you can't just go see it now.

Jack and the Giant Slayer....er....Bean Stalk. We went with friends and their children. It was GREAT fun!

don't do movies anymore..just can't sit that long sigh...we did buy lincoln and were so shocked to see not much had changed in 150 years...can't rememeber who did the first gatsby..and read the book so long agoi don't remember the storyline...

I saw 42 the day it came out. It was very good. I was a small child when the movie took place and I had forgotten how bigoted people were then.
