Tub shower screen, help me choose

Nearing the end of a bath project. The tub is a 3 wall alcove style 60 x 30 standard size with shower over tub arrangement. I would like to know pros and cons of these two style shower screens. I cannot do a typical sliding door arrangement, the bathroom is small.

Person prefernce and appearance is all it appears to be to me, if they are both fixed permanently.

Does A open, or is it fixed? My first thought is if it is fixed, it could be awkward for people to get in and out and impossible to bathe small children, if you’re considering resale in this.

Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?

Golfer57, your bathroom is on the way to looking fabulous. I am helping my daughter with her bathroom remodel choices and she wants a faux Carrara. Right now we have samples of Dal- tiles Florentine Carrara and Florida Tiles Gallant Carrara. We like the Florida tile samples the best. Would you please share the details of your tiles. My daughter is planning on using a light gray vanity and some type of white Quartz countertop. I think you should consider really consider using quartz.You won't have any worries about sealing it or water being absorbed into it. If you are using white cabinetry, I think a dark gray countertop would look great. I saw one the other day that was gorgeous, wish I knew the name of it. It was dark grey with some sparkle to it. It might have been one from Cambria's Metallic series. I don't remember if it had blue in it or not but it could have been Cambria Waterford. Here is what that one looks like on their website:

You can install a small plastic or metal shut off valve between the shower nozzle and pipe to stop the water as shown in the link. Should be available at Lowe's, WalMart, etc. The water comes out of the shower head when you don't want it because the diverter valves on the newer spouts are smaller and that impedes water flow more and sends some of it up to the shower head even when it isn't selected. I had option b in my last house. It was great. Really opened up the room a lot more than a shower curtain. It was used by children and never had a problem with water getting all over. The only issue with it was a small leak at the hinged area but I think that was due to improper installation and it would just be a bead of water on the outside of the glass. Not really a big deal.

While option A is good when showering, I would go for option B if I were sitting in the bathtub. When bathing I would open the panel for more elbow room and not feel like I was caged in. Also much easier to bath children with the panel opened.

A: has a pivoting panel that pivots in and out

B: has a fixed panel and a pivoting panel

Both are custom order items and the fixed panel on B can be specified.

I had concerns because I have never had this type of shower screen. I have used shower curtains which will not be optimal in this application for a number of reasons, as well as sliding shower doors which I really hate because it is impossible to clean the rails, there is a rail installed on the tub making bathing kids difficult.

I am concerned that A may hit the tub spout, so for that B looks safer, but with a fixed panel, would it be difficult to clean that inside corner and would it look terrible after a while?

If someone has similar in their home, I would find this type of advice helpful.

I didn’t find it any more difficult to clean the fixed panel than any other glass dooor. Yes, it requires standing in the tub but wasn’t any big deal. As with any glass, shower users should be wiping it down after use. In our case, the child who was old enough to use a squeegee was expected to do so. The younger child took baths. We had it for a couple years and it still looked nice when we moved and I’m no meticulous housekeeper.
