wall mount pro style hood: leave space between cabinets?
Comments (6)Weissman: I would love to not lose the 6". The plan is for the cab maker to use a filler to cover the spaces and not just to leave them open. My current cabs are butted up to the new hood and are damaged from steam and grease and not sure if it was from the previous hood being only 21" above the stove top or not. The current hood has more cfm and is positioned correctly at 29" above stove top. So now I don't know..butt the new cabs against the hood or give myself extra capture with the 6"...?...See Moreglasses in drawers?
Comments (7)We may do this - at the very least our plates will be in drawers. As a source for the no slip cupboard liner, plate stackers and oven racks (for baking pans etc above the stove), look no further than IKEA. I bought all of that, plus a pull out garbage can, and dishtowel rack for under $200 yesterday - first cheap expenditure of this reno!!!...See MoreUgly cabinets and island - need advice.
Comments (22)@KW Completely agree with all that you said. We are trying to decide if the house just needs to much work and is worth the asking price and all the headaches of doing all the work. Painting is easy but I am trying to work out the harder stuff. The inside of the house feels like it is from the tv show “Golden Girls”. They have Ugly trim around all of the doors, under all of the windows, and at the floor boards. I cannot decide if it should be painted or torn off and replaced. There is tile in most of the downstairs but right in the middle of the combined breakfast and living room there are 2 different patterns. It goes from gray wood tile to tan travertine in the middle of the room. The gray tile continues to the downstairs master bedroom and a sunroom. Basically if I want the tile to all match I have to rip it up everywhere and replace it. the owners do not have hardly any of either tile and matching tile (even with the brand and mfg) is not easy. I am just thinking the house will be a lot of work and it is 1 hr away from where we live now. It will be very hard to coordinate bids and people to do the work....See MoreDesign Error - wrong ceiling height!
Comments (86)1. do one cabinet on either side of the hood that is 33" wide versus that 9" useless cabinet that you'll have a hard time reaching into. You can always add dividers inside to how you want them. 2. I wouldn't do the corner angled upper cabinet. Instead have the cabinets to the right of the door die into the window wall. Do 2 30" middle cabinets with two solid end ones. If you go back to my kitchen photo, you can see how it looks when it dies into the wall. 3. Get rid of that lonely cabinet that is too short that is to the right of the window. And with #2 it will look like it was well designed and well planned. 4. I absolutely would make the cabinets on either side of the range the same height as the other cabinets. Right now it looks like someone forgot to order the upper cabinets. "Something my husband doesn’t want the cabinets by the stove higher than this — trying to balance the window on the other side." Sorry but your husband is incorrect because one is a large window and the other is a range hood. The range hood also needs to go to the ceiling. Windows are their own element....See Moredrsaj
