Comments (57)"...It's possible to make a car that does not break. Period..." Really? Even LEXUS owners have problems with their cars! And my old boss bought a new S class Mercedes. (S500) And it was eventually declared a "LEMON" and was replaced. Automobiles are still assembled by humans. And those huumans can have bad days and miss something on the line. It happens. And yes, not too long ago all American automakers built crap. But the quality has improved a great deal. So a Buick that's over 10 years old is not even in the same league as a Buick that's 2 years old as far as engineering goes. As a matter of fact, in 1999 we rented a brand new Park Avenue while on vacation. My wife called it a piece of garbage compared to our '88 Volvo. The power seat controls came off in her hand! Yeah, garbage! But I'll guarantee that the Lucerne is light years ahead of that Park Ave! In both quality and engineering....See MorePlaces where you'd NEVER live
Comments (156)Bump this up. I grew up in MI, lived in CT, CA and currently in NW Illinois. Naperville is 15 min. from me and it's voted as #1 safest city in America. I laughed since it's so cold here, thus the low crime rate. I like CT the most (small town South Windsor near Hartford). People grow old in that town and are super friendly. Neighbors gave me veggies from their garden. Nice scenery with trees shading the streets. Lots of places to enjoy: herb farms with swarms of birds, Elizabeth rose park, Mystic Seaport, Gilette Castle State park, and nice lakes for swimming. Next in my liking is MI (small country town with farms) ... people stay put long and get to know neighbors. The stench of cow farm across the street was the only negative. Nearby shopping was Grand Rapids, MI .. traffic was NOT bad like Chicago. I barely tolerate IL (suburb of Chicago & too congested but shopping & health care are minutes away), neighbors are too close together and I'm bothered by loud wind chines and barking dogs. Last is CA (San Jose area), too crowed and neighbors don't care to get to know one another due to high mobility ... people don't stay put in one place long. Traffic congestion is bad and long, long lines at grocery stores. I stayed with my sister (the doc.) in a rich Northern CA area, also another sister's middle-class area, and neighbors never care to talk to one another in both places....See MoreMy worst CL experience ever - I may never buy used again!
Comments (39)juddgirl2 - I have been on vacation and am now seeing this thread. Now I am traumatized by just reading it! Try putting a freshly cut apple in your sons desk drawers. Leave them inside for a few days. This little trick was giving to us by a car dealer to remove odors from cars. My daughters cat urinated on her back seat. We removed the seat cover and shampooed it, but the smell was still slightly detected. The apple worked, although my daughter forgot about it and it attracted fruit flies! segbrown - If you have the stomach, read my story about our outdoor grill. Beware...it is heart wrenching, but the grill lives on, even though it took several hose and dishwasher cleanings to be presentable for me to cook on. I wanted to get rid of it, but DH wouldn't hear of it. Here is a link that might be useful: The grill versus the birds...See MoreWhy I Could Never Work In Politics...
Comments (19)I honestly don't think that politics are more dirty than in the past, but I do think it's gotten a little bit more subtle. Gone are the days of the bottle of rum and ride to the polls, but I'm sure that's been replaced with whatever the 21st century version is. In Canada one dirty trick takes the form of robocalls directing people to the wrong polling station. I enjoyed this article about past dirty tricks: " In the election of 1800, one of the dirtiest in American history, the venomous hack writer James Callendar (secretly hired by Thomas Jefferson) assailed then-President John Adams as a “repulsive pedant” and “a hideous hermaphroditical character,” whatever that means. " http://freakonomics.com/2007/11/06/the-complete-history-of-dirty-politics-a-qa-on-anything-for-a-vote/ if I were in the states I would be far to the left of the Democrats, as would most Canadians, so you can take this advice with a grain of salt. but I feel the most effective way to get better leadership and representation in the Republican Party is not to vote for the parts of it that represent things that you hate. If they lose a significant chunk of the popular vote they may start to think of ways to get back their base instead of pandering to the fringe. But if the base remains completely loyal no matter what they will continue along whatever wacky path they're currently walking. I know Michael Moore is a bit of a wack a loon, but he did just write a little thought-provoking piece about how much the Republican Party has been fighting women, fighting against maternity leave, fighting against birth-control availability, forcing people to make weird decisions about fetal remains which as someone who had recently had a miscarriage of a much wanted baby that ended in an emergency D&C as I was bleeding out in the ER I highly object to, etc. etc. and he was saying that horrible misogynist like Trump is a natural outgrowth of those policies, not an aberration. And that may explain why the Republican Party is haemorrhaging the female vote. If only women were voting Clinton would be elected with 458 electoral votes, if only men were voting Trump would have 350....See Moresummersrhythm_z6a
