My Orange tree lost all of its leaves - can it still be saved?
Comments (7)Wendy, I'd guess that watering your in-ground tree three times a week could be the cause of the leaf drop. You don't say what part of S. Calif. you live in, but even if it was still 100F(in the shade)in November, and you had planted it on top of a six foot high sand pile... only then might watering that often be normal. Myself, I'm still trying to figure out in-ground citrus tree watering...the advice I've seen ranges from water once a week (except when it rains) to "citrus tree roots like to dry out in between watering". The weather and the type of soil make a big difference in water need. So does the fact that a tree with lots of leaves uses a lot more water than a tree with no leaves. I'd guess that continuing to water three times a week will continue the process of killing the tree. You need to have a way to check the soil for it's moisture content. You can buy inexpensive moisture meters for $10-15. And I've been trying out sticking wooden bamboo skewers into the ground(2-4 inches...the skewers are about 12" long and very cheap at 99cent stores, or supermarkets). Leave one in a few days then pull out and check. You can see how wet the tip is. Check it in a few more days, or a week...and watch how the tip dries as the soil dries. That might keep you from watering too much, if that's what the problem is. And about leaves growing back, remember that citrus trees have growth flushes 3-4 times a year. You might not see anything happening until the next flush. But as long as there's green under the bark, there's hope....See MoreLilac Tree and Bush has bark peeling/Fungus
Comments (1)The 'fungus' is actually lichen. Completely harmless and completely unrelated to the die-back. There are many things that can cause a lilac to die-back. In your case, large mature stems of common lilac are particularly susceptible to lilac borer. Stressed trees are also more susceptible to the borer...how much salt does your DOT put on that road behind the lilac?...See MoreHelp me diagnose my avocado tree problems (repost from trees)
Comments (7)I see a few problems: the spotted leaves are either a persa mite or fungus no a problem but the infected leaves will fall off. you should white wash the entire tree or move it to a shaded area until it starts to recover. how long have you had it were the brown tips there when you bought it? what have you fertilized with? i give even my new trees food. for small trees like yours if watering twice a week where i am its not super hot, i use a liquid b vitamin once a week for first month and make sure the ph of your water is below 7 i treat them like my blueberries and they love it more nutrient uptake. 5.5 - 6.5 is best. there are several ways to lower ph of water. twice a month i water with a dilution of ammonia sulfate which is 21-0-0 (2 tbs to 5 gal bucket of water.) that will push new growth. and once a quarter i add a little organic slow release avocado food, azomite. and i use a flower fert 2-10-10 before bloom time for heavy flowers... i have multiple trees in pots that are 10-15 ft tall and 8 ft wide heavely fruited. so you have to be on a good feeding schedule....See MoreNeed Help with My Avocado Tree
Comments (7)BahamaDan ZTropic - Thank you for the feedback. The fertilizer I've been using is worm casting (vermicompost). I don't have a schedule I follow, so I haven't been consistent as I'd like to be. The mulch I had down, prior to the picture were a bunch of leaves from my other plants. I have removed the grass that was surviving near the trunk. I wouldn't be surprised if water and soil is high in alkaline. I'll buy a soil/pH test to confirm. I plan to to use the Iron EDDHA you suggested as well. I also plan on providing this tree actual mulch (wood chips) and a better watering schedule. You have any suggestions on fertilizer I should be using? fireduck(10a) - Thanks for your feedback. I can't wait. I will definitely whitewash the tops and provide better care for this true, especially during the summer months....See MoreScott Y
