Young tree lost its leader, can I save it?
Comments (3)Oh! Sorry I didn't mean to be vague. I'm in South Africa on the tropical East Coast (so it's mid-summer here). Thomas is an albizia adianthifolia (or... flat-crown). Thomas is also a hail-survivor (donate to the African Hail Survivor Fund today!) I don't have a photo of Thomas right now but I can take one when I get home. Right now he's a metre high stick with some tufts of leaves growing out (except at the top, no leaves at the top :( ) but the canaries seem to like him. Here is a link that might be useful: Albizia!...See Moremy butterfly bush has lost all of its bottom leaves, not its tops
Comments (8)Thank you all SO MUCH for helping me out. As far as the leaves changing color, they became a little more yellow than normal, and just began falling. It was almost overnight and it was bare. I did notice today that there is a bit of new growth near the top!!! =) So if it is dropping older leaves, will this happen each year? Should I prune it almost to the ground? I pruned it about half in size this year (the previous owners had never pruned at all according to a neighbor) should I do it more next year? About the rain, it rained more in late May and early June: I never imagined I could have watered it to much. My perenials in that bed havent suffered (keeping my fingers crossed) except for a hydrangea that also has yellow leaves. Again, thank you all for your help. I am taking all suggestions....See MoreCan you guys save my dads orange tree?
Comments (5)It gets plenty of sun and its watered once a week. Also the first three years it had no grass growing around its roots but this year it does. Also the stakes were made for citrus trees so I dont think thats the issue. I live in hialeah. I will try and figure out how to post a picture....See MoreMy potted Meyer lemon tree lost all leaves 6 mo. Ago at delivery& 4 mo
Comments (6)Your tree will take it's time coming back after who knows what it went through, or will start putting on new growth as soon as tomorrow. I don't understand why you waited this long to put your tree outside? Why may I ask you? Mines just limp along in the dead of winter and barely hang on by spring, and would drop all their leaves of I waited this long. I would rather give them tons of sunlight and cooler temps, what I mean is no lower than the low 40's.Less stress, believe me on my trees and myself. f I held them hostage inside longer than 5 months they would do poorly, unless of course if mine were in warmth and full sun in a greenhouse. Did you ever tell us where you live? What zone you are? It's also hard to be positive with you in saying with confidence that it will do fine when no one knows or will ever know exactly the care you give it all year long, especially in doors. What we can say is that a good watering regimen, a good quality mix and a good quality fertilizer with the right pH will do wonders for any citrus grower and their potted trees) Mike)...See Morewendygg
