What color to paint walls in this farmhouse kitchen
Comments (15)I think a soft yellow or green would be nice. You may not want the walls too bright if you are going to accessorize with bright colors. For the green I'd try a tone close to the lightest color in the counters. I have a green laminate in my laundry/pantry room and my walls are Palm Breeze, a Behr color. But my counters and walls are separated by a white beadboard backsplash, which is also about 4 1/2' high on the lower walls. Cabinets are also white. Upper kitchen walls and dining room are also this color. And the downstairs half bath. Yes, I love it. : ) Diana Here is a link that might be useful: green paint...See MoreCan this antique hutch be painted "farmhouse" style
Comments (25)Thanks so much for all the great ideas and opinions. Here is a little more info. It's actually all one piece and not a top and bottom and there were never doors on it. There is a label somewhere that says "True Grand Rapids-Cabinet Making Certified" although they advertised it as being in excellent condition it's definitely not. I like the examples that were posted and my family room has a side table and coffee table that are distressed off white (Broyhill Attic Heirloom series) but the wall behind it will be a tan color when the drywall is finished in a week or two, the floor it will sit on will be honey oak and the chairs around the table are black. My table actually matches the color of the piece now but I always have a table cloth on it these days (I've got 4 kids). I've kicked around the idea of going barn red but either black, off white, or red, I'm just not sure the formal piece will look right going rustic although some of the examples above have that same formal look and they painted up very nice. I'll try to post pictures of the surroundings tomorrow. Thanks again for the ideas and opinions....See MoreHelp with small 1901 farmhouse cottage house exterior paint color
Comments (7)What an adorable house! I grew up with those white frame houses with black trim, & to me, they always looked stark & maybe institutional. & this is what I thought when I was too young to know those words! I think with a pure white background, you can use pure clear colors like red, which is a great "country" color for houses, or deep cool pastels, like the gray you have now or maybe a deeper gray. Hunter green is also a traditional color for farmhouse trim, & it would play off the white white beautifully. I'm a fan of Behr paints from Home Depot, but a lot depends on your climate; we have lots of summer & you may have lots of winter or lots of salt spray. This forum's participants have a vast pool of experience a great willingness to share, so I'm sure somebody will give you expert advice on brand & type....See MoreBest Farmhouse White
Comments (15)I need help choosing between Behr Swiss Coffee and Sherwin Williams Alabaster for my kitchen cabinets and walls. We love rustic farmhouse style. These two colors are very similar. As you can see by comparing the key color attributes: hue, value, chroma and LRV. Where they differ the most is hue family - and a little in terms of chroma. Swiss Coffee is closer to the yellow-red hue family. Which means it's going to look creamier, more ivory than Alabaster. Alabaster is on the other side of 5Y which is the middle of the yellow hue family. In comparison to Swiss Coffee, Alabaster is closer to the green-yellow hue family. Which is why it's going to look more "just white". Also, Swiss Coffee has a smidge more chroma - it's a tiny bit more colorful than Alabaster. Which means Alabaster is technically more neutral than Swiss Coffee. Because of the difference in hue family, "just white" vs. "creamier", and chroma smidge more colorful vs. smidge more neutral, Alabaster is going to meet your idea of what a Farmhouse White is supposed to look like the most. I'd choose Alabaster. Bigger....See MoreRelated Professionals
