You could skimcoat the drywall walls if there are many imperfections.

As for paint color ideas, post a couple daytime photos of the flooring and any other hard surfaces such as tile or fireplace. Add a piece of white paper to help camera color balance.

Now I remember: the house has a yellow-gold tiled bathroom, back in a post from last summer. If you painted the bathroom white, you may want to use the same white throughout the house.

3 light coats of mud (letting coat dry before applying next coat) over tape feathering to a wider spread each time and using wider (12 inch) trowel. Usually sand lightly before last coat. I don't think even flat paint will hide your seams. You could try a textured primer before your flat coat.

can you do the bottom half in bead board or wide panels (at the tape line) if you are selling and the drywall looks dyi it will be screaming DYI FLIP BEWARE to your buyers -- do it right or not at all- Depending on the room you could do 1/2 wall bottom in rustic light color wood or a different color with a chair rail...

BM mascarpone is a great color as it appears white but has a warmth to it.

Hire someone to do taping +skim coat if you cant manage it - paint color is really an insignificant consideration compared to obvious visible flaws in drywalling. People WILL see it. I would not spend time and money on trying to conceal the flaws with paneling or whatever - just get the finish right and leave it at that. Keep it simple.

BTW the drywall should have been hung vertically with the edges where 2 pieces meet fastened onto a stud. That way you don't get that ridge where the 2 pieces meet

As a soon to be buyer, it irks me when I see a house with amateur workmanship and then Im supposed to pay more for the supposed upgrade. Sorry to be blunt, but it really is something you might hear from a buyer.

Money was spent with contractors. Sometimes, saving a house costs more than you think and sometimes people do what they can after other avenues are taken.
