Can this antique hutch be painted "farmhouse" style
Comments (25)Thanks so much for all the great ideas and opinions. Here is a little more info. It's actually all one piece and not a top and bottom and there were never doors on it. There is a label somewhere that says "True Grand Rapids-Cabinet Making Certified" although they advertised it as being in excellent condition it's definitely not. I like the examples that were posted and my family room has a side table and coffee table that are distressed off white (Broyhill Attic Heirloom series) but the wall behind it will be a tan color when the drywall is finished in a week or two, the floor it will sit on will be honey oak and the chairs around the table are black. My table actually matches the color of the piece now but I always have a table cloth on it these days (I've got 4 kids). I've kicked around the idea of going barn red but either black, off white, or red, I'm just not sure the formal piece will look right going rustic although some of the examples above have that same formal look and they painted up very nice. I'll try to post pictures of the surroundings tomorrow. Thanks again for the ideas and opinions....See MoreWho offers the best price on a Fireclay Farmhouse Sink?
Comments (15)I spent many hours researching farmhouse sinks and kept going back and forth on what model to buy and how much to settle for. Ultimately, the biggest deciding factor was the warranty. I was very close to getting a Belle Foret, but, it took me FOREVER to get hold of a sales representative on the phone and they told me they don't warranty the sinks! :-( Big downer. To spend several hundred dollars and not have a warranty was a done deal. I finally decided to splurge for a Shaw sink. With a 15 year warranty, I felt much more reassured. The company I bought from, Home & Stone, was BRILLIANT to work with. They were wonderful on the phone answering my endless questions and their representative even corresponded via email with me! (Many other GWers have had success with this company too! Thanks for the tip!) The sink came perfectly wrapped (even strapped to a pallet) and in perfect condition....in 3 days! Plus they don't charge shipping fees! It came to $888. That was definitely more than I wanted to spend, but, considering the reputation of Rohl/Shaw, the warranties, and the service of Home & Stone, I think it was well worth it! Also, quick side note: My sister-in-law works with building developers. She sells the homes once they're built. And, she warned me about going cheap on the farmhouse sinks - they installed "cheaper" ones in the homes and would get calls within several months of selling the home, complaints of chipping and staining. I don't know what models they installed, but just think through whatever you decide to go with! GL!!!!...See MoreHelp with small 1901 farmhouse cottage house exterior paint color
Comments (7)What an adorable house! I grew up with those white frame houses with black trim, & to me, they always looked stark & maybe institutional. & this is what I thought when I was too young to know those words! I think with a pure white background, you can use pure clear colors like red, which is a great "country" color for houses, or deep cool pastels, like the gray you have now or maybe a deeper gray. Hunter green is also a traditional color for farmhouse trim, & it would play off the white white beautifully. I'm a fan of Behr paints from Home Depot, but a lot depends on your climate; we have lots of summer & you may have lots of winter or lots of salt spray. This forum's participants have a vast pool of experience a great willingness to share, so I'm sure somebody will give you expert advice on brand & type....See Morebest soft white exterior paint for farmhouse
Comments (5)My house is Shoji White. It's very soft and reads more creamy. I would say SW Alabaster is more of a soft but true white. My interior cabinets trim doors and ceilings are Alabaster. Alabaster Shoji I'd grab samples of both and go from there.......See MoreUser
