@Ashley George - if you’re asking about the photo right before your question, I’ve seen many of these for sale. The least expensive option that has good reviews is starting with IKEA pieces of furniture. I’ve never bought anything from IKEA but am trying to decide about how to arrange a media wall. IKEA has some pieces that can be floated even though they aren’t marketed that way. Some of their consoles are meant to be hung on the wall. I am still considering this option: Samsung - the frame TVs. Really cool. Come with a lot of art loaded. You pick your frame. TV sits flat against wall.

teacats: That would be my top choice if we had more depth to the room. :) Well we bit the bullet and made the swap and everyone's first impression is that it is a big improvement. It is amazing that we even all agree--as we seldom all agree on the same thing. Since the TV is quite large we prefer the more distant view than having the sofa as close as it was before. We were able to rig up a temporary cable connection off of our message center--smart thinking DH put in the structured wiring everywhere (cable, phone, etc.) I apologize for the poor quality pictures. I could not get a setting that did not show the morning sun coming in the transoms. Good news is there is no glare on the TV. DH thinks the technology of the TV must adjust for that. What do you think (so far)? Obviously, this will entail some changes with the furniture and the cable/surround sound plan. It is very hard to spend time and money putting in a system only to realize it's not workable and needs to be completely redone. Retrofitting the wiring to this wall will not be trivial as the remodel called for sheerwall and bolts on this wall plus the backside of the wall has shower tile on it so whatever we do we need to proceed with caution. Thoughts at this point are to get a larger rug--I'm thinking the Karastan multi-panel Kirman I had my eye on for the LR but did not get. As the console is custom we are thinking to see if the company can make a hutch for it with CD storage on the sides and a bridge across the top. Then the bookcases will be consolidated into one where the shorter of the two is presently and a comfy arm chair will go in the corner where the hardback chair is now. I've told DH and the kids this will be Pop's chair--he really likes the idea of his own TV/reading corner. We may even add a second chair where the ottoman is now--more for conversation than TV viewing. Whenever we have a party people always seem to congregate in this area--it's more of a great room since it's open to the kitchen. Then I'm thinking of replacing the coffee table with a larger sized storage ottoman with the top that flips over--to break up the wood look since the kitchen cabinets are also viewable.

Sarah, That layout was just a starting point for your room. There is lots of room to entertain different concepts for your room. Here's another possible layout for you to consider. This one has two sofas with 'cuddle' sections at each end facing the TV. I added an upright piano to the plan. Is this something you own or are you considering a baby grand for the room? Not sure this is the right room for a standard wall bookcase to store books. I'm sure you have an office in this house that might be scaled better to receive a standard 84" tall bookcase. Instead, you might want to consider sectionals that have matching bookcases that border the sectional like this example below. The bookcases act as book storage, display space, and console tables all at the same time. That long wall for the TV is 14ft. This photo below illustrates a cleaver use of a long wall that incorporates a TV and some display shelving if that is what you meant by bookcases for the room. Here are a variety of long walls with large TVs mounted on the walls and ways to address all the wall space that comes with this. I'd suggest you start with a rug that at a minimum is 10x14. It can be larger, as you have the room. Rugs this size can be pricey and limited in designs. Also, it's like hauling 2 dead bodies to move them so you'll not want to do that more than once. The plan also shows a long credenza or sideboard with art mounted above on the wall behind the two sectionals. This might be a great spot for placing a food spread if you entertain. Just keep in mind how large the room is and small items will get lost in this room. Also for you ceiling, don't even consider a 54 or 60" size. Start looking at the big fans if you expect any air movement.

My first piece of advice is to stop buying. More isn't always better. If you have purchased a fireplace for in the room send it back. You don't have room for another piece of furniture, another vase or plant or thing. Don't replace the rug or get pillows or wall art. Decide on a reasonable monthly budget for décor and furniture. When you own a home I generally recommend that you save $1.00 per square foot of home per year toward furnishings and half that amount toward décor, kitchen gadgets, electronics . . . Can you save $3000.00 per year / $250.00 per month toward making your space beautiful? Save for 1 year before spending a dime. Between now and then window shop, look at everyone else's homes, Look at rooms on TV shows and on the internet. When Covid is under control start going to open houses and model homes in new developments. Go to different furniture stores and look at different styles and different colors and different quality and price points. Go to used furniture stores/antique malls. Look at rooms on the internet including rooms that are normal homes, not just designer created spaces - posts on Houzz design dilemmas and Zillow homes for sale. Start saving pictures of the things you love. Find your personal style. Find your personal color palette. Read about furniture and learn from the experience of others. Nice things cost more money but last for decades. Cheap furniture has to be replaced every few years and costs more in the long run. Go through your home and evaluate everything you own. Does it bring you joy? Does it function well? Is it still nice or is it getting a bit old/shabby looking? Part with the things that no longer bring you joy and don't serve some function. Find a home for everything in your house - no stacking stuff on table tops or leaving it out if it isn't meant to be decorative. Get a few storage boxes or totes and put things that fall into that "I don't love this item, but I don't want to get rid of it yet" category. Put a post it note on each item when you place it in the tote with the date on it. Once a year go through your tote and re-evaluate those items that have been in the tote for more than 6 months. Have you missed it? If not re-home the item. Keep a notebook with notes of the things that just don't work for you - your biggest pain points. At the end of a year take out 1/2 of the money you have saved and decide where and how you are going to spend your money. Buy one piece of furniture that will replace something that you really don't like anymore. Make sure it is good quality and fits with the style you are moving toward. You will have a list of items that you love and their prices and be able to pick the one piece that is going to last for the next 20 years. You will have $500 to spend on a beautiful piece of wall art and a new bedspread or a unique vase or lamp. Again, only buy things that you absolutely love. Keep saving and spending 1/2 of what you have in savings annually. As your income grows you will have some extra from your paychecks to add to your spending and be able to purchase a few new items. When it comes time to replace the sofa you will have enough money to buy something nice that is going to stay nice for years to come. Your goal is to collect 20-30 pieces of nice furniture over the next 10 years and 20-30 special décor items that you love over the next 10 years. Most of these items other than your mattress, sofa and chairs should last the rest of your life and not need to be replaced again. Upholstered items get replaced or recovered every 7-10 years. You will have a beautiful home with beautiful things, but you have to get there. You need a plan and you need to work toward that plan. The other option is to just buy whatever tickles your fancy at the moment and have rooms full of things that are just okay and don't really go together or work together but fill the space.
