I wonder why the "unlevel " situation was noticed at the time of template?? I am quite unsure about this..... aesthetically it is not pleasing at all!

Can you take a photo from further back?

The horizontal counter edge need to have a lip that would cover any imperfections. How is that hole going to be covered? How does it look over other cabinets and appliances?

I wouldn't be happy with that, but I don't know the finish details of your project.

These cabinets where not cheap. The amount of money I paid demands a quality job.

That is a heck of a lot for new cabinets to be out of level. What brand cabinets? Who did the install? The dealer? Your GC?

Installed by a local, reputable kitchen company. They previously installed a kitchen at another of my properties without issue.

The moisture from the dishwasher is going to create a nice layer of mold on those shims after a period. And mold weakens wood. So just for that reason alone it’s not acceptable. The more immediate concern—since mold will take a little time to develop—is that the top isn’t properly supported from what I can see.

No mold is going to happen anymore then it would on the cabinet surround. Jeesh. The shim may compress a bit as the weight bears on it over time. The counter install really isn’t the issue here. They did the best they could with the shite underneath.

The real issue is the design and install of the cabinets. The DW side panel isn’t level with the rest of the cabinets, and no one installed a stretcher between the cabinet to the right of the DW and the sad skinny little end panel. The end panel needed a filler attached in an L shape for stability and additional counter support. There also needs to be another horizontal cleat at the rear of the DW, supporting the stone.

That much weight on that 3/4” badly out of level and not well shimmed end panel will result in issues eventually. The DW should be pulled, and that panel should be leveled, and cross supports installed front and back at a minimum. It’s too late to get that end panel with filler done correctly. That would have had to have been designed correctly from the beginning.

This has the smell of the typical Chinese imported cabinets, their inexperienced cabinet sellers, and their in house “cabinet installers”

Interesting, in my area of CA all counters are installed over a plywood base. The fabricator only measures after the plywood is down and everything is level. I worked with 4 different GCs and 4 installers over the last 9 years (with granite, quartzite, quartz and corian) and they all did it this way.

What does the right side of the DW look like under that counter?
