Please Help with Large Master Bedroom decorating.

I think I have a nice space to work with but it is a little overwhelming. Hoping I can get some help with decorating this relatively large master bedroom. I recently painted the room Waynesboro Taupe by Benjamin Moore. I need advice on what size/type area rug to get and the placement of the rug. Some help with table /wall lamps would be great too!

I plan on buying some comfortable seating for the foot of the bed or to be placed near the fireplace.

Bed and cherry furniture has to stay for now but I will spray the brass fixtures so they don't stand out as much.

The room measures approx. 19' by 17'

Too many pillows on the bed, and I'm afraid the room looks rather cold. I would add another color, perhaps yellow, to warm up the room, and pale yellow curtains with gray walls would look great, and change some of the pillows to that color. The TV looks lonely, I would put a long, narrow console under it and find a way to attach the cord behind the TV. You could put large candle holders with yellow candles on the console, but don't crowd it with too much "stuff" otherwise. I wouldn't paint the wall too deep a gray, make it a warm middle tone so the room looks cozy.

I think you’re going to need a bit of contrast or the room will fall completely flat. Dove is a white but a crisp white will still give you a cleaner feeling in there. Since you want a monochromatic room you’re going to have to use as much contrast however slight you can and a ton of texture. For drapery panels i would do a linen with texture and hang them all the way to the ceiling.

That last pic is lovely but you do notice there are no wood blinds which IMO are not a good choice in a bedroomthey seem to never really go with the bedding, which BTW we nned to see.

The current wall color is sucking the life out of the room. My current favorite colors are Behr Honied White, Yucca White and Sweet As Honey, Honey Infusion. I had a grey master bedroom feature wall and neutralized it with Yucca White. I'm over the grey trend.

Do you have a walk-in closet? If so, I would move the chest (the one to the right of the fireplace) into the closet. I would then move the other chest (left of fireplace) to the right. Both chests look too Big for the current spaces.

What a spacious room. I like the idea of seating near the fireplace but would you use it? I'm not crazy about the dressers near the windows either because I like the idea of fully accessible windows. Any room for them on the other wall? The bed is looking squished into the corner. I'd want to center it on that wall. On my screen, the wall colour doesn't look like the best choice for the room. To my eye, it looks a bit too dark to harmonize well with your furniture and floor and I find the white ceiling too stark against the walls. This is my impression, looking at your pictures on my screen. In person, it might look much better and the room might glow. How's your lighting in this room? If I were mine, I'd want to optimize the lighting and get everything on dimmers (matching bedside lamps), add curtains and hang up artwork.

The wall color looks so much different in person. It’s actually very nice and not as dark as it appears. But I do understand the comments based on the photos. I’d love to get rid of the larger chest - it’s my husbands so I’m going to see if I can make room in the closet! Thanks!

I'm always wary of commenting on wall colour because I know pictures and screens can't be trusted. My iPhone fails me every time I take room shots. :) What size rug do you need? I'm thinking an off-white with a hint of green similar to your wall colour? I'd be so envious of your large closet if it can hold a chest of dressers.

I'm assuming you have a grand walk in closet. Take the tall chests out of this room and confine clothes storage to the closet. Here is a proposed layout for the room.

I’d find a fabric that you love with your wall color....and start there. Or, find a large area rug with that color in it as your inspiration. A Persian style, perhaps, that includes other colors that can be picked out for fabrics to dress your windows, your bed, and seating in front of your beautiful fireplace. I feel an elegant style emerging..... I know that Houzz designers will come up with idea boards that will inspire you! A lovely room!

We would try a rug under the bed to help ground the space, and see if you can move the dressers into a walk in closet if you have one. Then we would place seating in front of the fireplace. Here are a few of ours designs that might help:

Thank you for your input! I hadn't thought of having two area rugs in the room but I think this may be a better solution. I am relocating the large chest but sadly my closet is definitely not big enough for it.

Hmmm, not so convenient for your hubby! Perhaps you could find a not so tall dresser for in front of the window.

Btw, I don’t mind the color at all! Once you put up soft white side panels, art , rugs, and lighting I think it will look very rich!
