April, 2019 Quilting/Sewing Goals

No tricks at our house today. My brothers were the tricksters but I don't remember what they did. I remember being told my sweet little pastor's wife gramma, got my trickster grandpa. lol They were laying in bed and she pointed to the ceiling and screamed, SPIDER! Yep, gramps jumped out of bed.

April is preparing for retreat month for some of us. I've done some cutting to have fabric all ready to sew together into blocks for a few projects, but still have a few more I want to have handy. Plus, I need to cut some more 5" squares for our games. There are 3 BOM's to put together again this month and continue making blocks for the Hanging Gardens, Double Plus, Hearts, red/white/blue Pinwheels, tiny Dresden Plates and 4 more blocks of Thinking Outside the Block (made my way). I also have to find the small duffle bag for my retreat clothes.......unless I'm allowed to wear a nightshirt all day. After all, they're just big T-shirts, right? LOLOLOL

What to do in April???

I have nine quilts ready for the bazaar in Nov. so I think I can slow down. But the ideas are rolling around in my head. I did cut some papers this morning for string blocks, and I saw a picture on Pinterest of something interesting so I might try that. I did start a set of very plain placemats yesterday.

We are going up to Ottawa next week for several days. DGGD#2 will be two and there will be a party. Then comes Easter and we will be having our Christmas dinner with two families. Better driving weather now than Dec.

Later that week will be my birthday, number 86, whew! No party for that though.

So that is my April.

Theresa, happy birthday to you and your DGGD!

No specific goals for me. We are probably going to do a lot of yard work one weekend. A friend who is very talented with landscaping said he'd come help us.

I'd like to finish the Monterrey Medallion top. It needs 32 Jacob's Ladder blocks for the border. One is done; most of the parts for the rest are cut and all the HSTs are sewn.

Sharon, I can't remember any April Fool's tricks, so if there were any they must not have been that great. :)

My only goal is to do SOMETHING! It's already getting hot, it's 88 degrees on my front porch in the shade, so maybe that'll get me back inside. That's funny about the biscuits, that's the only thing at that restaurant that's worth eating IMO. They have similar ones at Ruby Tuesdays so since we like their salad bar we can get them there. Donna, glad you're healing, just don't overdo. I do have some strips and scraps looking at me after I went through and sorted them all into color families - (probably 6 huge bags worth). I had asked my Grandson, aged 14 if he would do me a huge favor one day when I had to pick him up due to an early release day, just for laughs. When I explained what I needed done and showed him the bags you should have seen the look I got! LOL! So I told him I would pay him $10 to do it. Well you know the rest of THAT story. So I said "how much money would it take?". He couldn't come up with an answer. The only thing he could think to say besides "no" was "why?"

This one has me pondering. i always thought I would like to make a Bargello. That is a dream which probably won't get realized though. Ambition: I would like to make at least one Chemo quilt a month. That is more realistic. I do have two Lotto winnings waiting to be put together but each needs more blocks. There is one top waiting to be sandwiched and quilted. Hopefully this month. And of course doing the BOM is high on the list. During Dec. I actually made a short list of things I should do and it is on the bulletin board next to the machine. I will have to check it out. I don't remember what I put. I have a bin of polycottons from years ago, still in good shape. So doing something with those is a possibility. Something for the bazaar. I am sure more ideas will pop up as the year unfolds. So to everyone, a healthy, happy and productive 2019. Theresa

Sharon, yes all the squares are different 6 1/2" and I think I have two pieces of red, blue, yellow green, etc. . I was using up bits and pieces but did have enough of each colour to do the large block and all of the 2 1/2" in the blocks but did not have any leftovers for that scrappy border. After it was finished I thought it might look much better if all the fabrics were from the same line but that will be another project. Or even an I Spy. It reminded me of Falling Charms as I was laying it out. It does look good to me. Good and scrappy. I was working on it this morning and came up with a different border treatment. I will take a picture of that later. It was quite quick and easy to do. Have fun! Theresa

Gosh, it is already November 17 and just now thinking about goals! I am hoping to get the last borders on my brother's VFW raffle quilt so I can get it sandwiched for quilting. I will end about 98 x 108 if all goes according to plan! Last year's raised almost $2000 and it was only 60x72. Bev, so sorry to hear about your friend. Sharon is right - that horrible disease has taken too many close family and friends. Theresa, your little bags sound cute! Sharon, your Heart BOMs are really cute! Lois, I have been to Scotland but it has been 20 years! We rented a car and stayed in B&Bs most places and used a paper atlas for getting around. Things have certainly become easier with Googlemaps and cell phones!! I only drove one day on our last trip to England in 2015. Ireland is still on the list of places to visit. I'm back to three days a week at work, so I should have more time and energy for quilting. I want to make another BOM. I may try and quilt another runner for the auction since they are not due until next Sunday. Continue cutting scraps and try and get enough done for 3-4 quilts. I'm going to the doc on April 10 to see about getting a knee replacement. Once I know when that will be scheduled, I hope to be able to get my quilting bees in before surgery.

Happy Birthday Theresa! I hope you have a very nice one. I am just getting ready for the Paducah AQS show in 2 weeks. My sister will be coming for 5 days and we will spend most of the time either at the show, in class or quilting at home together. I am really looking forward to the time with her. Hope everyone is enjoying this warming weather!

Donna, There are times I think making blocks goes quicker if the pieces are cut before hand, and other times, not. I guess it depends on the pattern. At least for me. Stay hydrated when outside.

Bev, Less work, more time for quilting. Hope things work out that your knee feels better.

Char, Everything is more fun when a sibling is with you. Making memories, laughing and having fun. Enjoy!

Two BOMs are made and I have a few blocks kitted for retreat. And, found out we're having a great-great grandgirl in August so a pink baby quilt is in progress.

Happy birthday, Theresa. And congratulations to you and your family, Sharon. Bev, I hope you get relief with your knee replacement.

My goal this month is just to get back to quilting. I started quilting my little kimono wall hanging, but I may do some ripping, since I'm not very happy with it. I also would like to finish the snowball child's quilt that I'm working on. I have one child's quilt in reserve, but I hear that there will be two new additions in our family this year - great nieces or nephews. I'm so excited to get started on a new quilt called "Crossroads" from Paula Barnes and Mary Ellen Robison's book Tributes and Treasures. I have all the fabric for it, including the backing which I got for $4.55 a yard at the going-out-of-business sale.

Spring is such a busy time of year though. Golf league starts in a couple of weeks (if the 10" of snow we got yesterday and overnight melts, that is), the gardens need to be cleaned, mahjong starts up again now that the snow birds are returning to Minnesota and our choral concert is two weeks away. So much to do. How did I ever find time to work? I guess I didn't play nearly as much.
