Wish I could have gotten a pic of this, but my car scared it off.
I was on my way home from getting groceries, through the farmland. There is a small pond surrounded by trees on the way and right beside it was a large bird. I grabbed for my iPhone to get a pic, but it flew off. I thought at first that it was a great blue heron, which we occasionally have around here. But as it flew off, I heard that very distinct call.......it was a sandhill! What is a solitary sandhill doing around here? It flew over several fields and I watched it, but couldn't see if it landed. But there definitely didn't appear to be any other sandhills around. Very strange. I hope it knows what it's doing and catches up to the others, in their northern migration.
