Buying a house sight unseen, can anyone ID this gas range?
Comments (16)Thanks everyone! We're really, really excited about the move. The house is right over the NH border and about 30 min. to portsmouth. My husband and I are really "outdoorsy" and the area sounds perfect. We were in Japan for 4 years, and yes, their kitchens are awful. I LOVE to cook, and it was a challenge to say the least to cook in that tiny, badly-laid-out kitchen. The OTR micro will be going, and we'll install an outside vent if there isn't already one (it's an exterior wall). I like the colors of the cabinets and floors, so that will stay, but definitely new counters. I'm not sure what yet...I kind of picture something lighter, like a light granite or maybe copper or zinc. We're very much DIYers, and might do concrete (we've done it before). We'll also pull out the fridge surround so that it actually covers the sides of the fridge. I'd like to change out the appliances for stainless, but it isn't a priority and might not happen. Also, maybe new hardware on the cabs? Like nickle cup pulls for the drawers, etc? Overall, the house is very well built and spacious, and we can tone down the country without too much trouble. Those pendents are leather, and will be changed out for something more like this: Actually, most of the lighting has a moose motif, and will be changed. The challenge will be keeping true to the style of the house and still giving it a more modern sensibility. My style is more fun/eclectic/bright than this house, with white trim, but I'm going to keep the stained because it's well-done and there's a ton of it. We'll only be there a few years, so I can't make it too wacky. :-) Once we get there and get a better idea of how it reads in person, I'll get more photos up and get some advice on how to proceed with the de-moosing of the house....See MoreTeixeira Black Galaxy Soapstone - Brazil
Comments (8)judydel, the Cobra is uber smooth and actually takes a beating better than the Julia. I have beaten all the samples with the heavy end of a dinner fork and scratched them with the tines and this particular sample stays pretty much black. Any light areas (of which there have been *tiny* ones-two or three max) have been easily wiped away with my finger tips (I'm very serious). Granted, I don't have a full slab and I am just starting my kitchen reno planning, so I only have the sample squares to go by....See MoreAnyone in NTexas or OK have soapstone?
Comments (1)Hi, we're in Norman and have recently done our countertops. I considered soapstone before choosing quartzite instead. While we were shopping I did see some lovely slabs of soapstone that almost changed my mind a time or two. In OKC, try Midwest Tile, AG&M, and SW Tile....See MoreAnyone order soapstone slabs from afar? Advice?
Comments (3)oh, how I know your pain! I am in Maryland and searched for months and months for *black* soapstone. I fell in love with my Brazilian Black sample from MTex and loved my Mumbai Grey also. There are very few places that carry soapstone around here and those that do only carry the green varieties. One location actually gets their slabs from MTex, but only choose to carry greens :(. I wanted black soapstone only on my perimeter counters to pair with calacatta on my island. We contacted MTex and priced out having my fabricator send them a template and MTex would do everything except install. I would need to have my local fabricator install. They have a 30 sq. ft. minimum for this and I only needed 22 sq. ft. The price for my material and shipping was based on the 30 ft. minimum and was right around $2K. Installation would be on top of that. I will say that MTex was wonderful to work with and was willing to send pictures of their slabs for my approval. One day while visiting my fabricator, who also carries a granite and marble inventory, I tripped over a leftover slab of cambrian black antique. He gave me the material for a rediculously inexpensive remnant price ($45 sq. ft!) and I just couldn't pass it up. Perhaps he knew he was making plenty off of the 50 plus feet of calacatta ;). I would try calling MTex, explaining your situation, and ask for pictures of the actual slabs in their inventory - they were very understanding and willing to work with me. GOOD LUCK!!!...See Morebrdrl
