Are you sure you like warm colors? If so, don’t wander too far into the gray area. (You mention cobalt blue - blue is a cool color. )

I edited to take out the warm/cool part... I guess I'm not sure how to label what I like! It is a very traditionally styled home - brick colonial style with white columns on the outside, formal dining room, library, etc but at the same time I want it to be cozy and homey-feeling, if that make sense.

Cool grays have blue undertones while warmer grays have a red or yellow undertone.

I may be doing my open floor areas of my home in a gray and want it warm as well so have been reading up on it.

Thanks NewEnglandgal! That top one looks very greenish to me. I am concerned about having green tones with the blue stove. We've always had some sort of beige or tan walls and I'm ready for a change with this house, so I'm not really drawn to the "greige" look. Maybe the repose or passive or silver city?

Gray Owl looks greenish to me, too...and that's the danger of recommending or looking at colors online, sadly. However, the guidelines can help...

For example, the picture above with all the "grays"? To me: Top row are gray, second row are beige with the exception of repose gray which I find gray/green. Third row, I would classify as green with the exception of aloof gray witch, again, looks like repose gray...a gray/green. So it's all about perception and monitors :-/

It sounds to me like you "did" beige and this time out want gray. Nothing wrong with that. It's just paint. So find a gray that's acceptably warm to you, while still looking gray. Off to the paint store with you!

Or, find a "white" that leans warmer...

Its why I also posted the link. It is very informative and she has other blogs as well on gray paint color and also a really good one on how they look different on a north vs south wall with pictures. You cannot tell how the color looks online and need to go to the paint stores and look for yourself. These are just a few examples. You said you wanted a warm gray but you also want a blue hue so that would more than likely give you the cool grays but its all in what you like and what look you want. Many out there to choose from. Have run with it.

yes, I guess a cool gray is actually more what we need. I don't know! I do have several paint fans with allll the different colors, there are just so many that it's overwhelming.

Sherwin Williams have color specialists who will come to the house for a small fee and help you choose colors and they give you money off or a gift card towards the paint. Worth looking into if you are having a hard time choosing. I have an interior designer helping me for just this reason. I understand how difficult it is.

Oh, interesting. I'll have to think about that. I don't think our painters are going to be using SW paint, they said they have another brand they feel is better, but that we can pick out colors that way.
