Comments (8)if you are determined to paint your house grey Now, read this article and it will set you straight. www.colorfullybehr/know-your-neutrals/#sthash.9o3dHB5C.6064IcXU.dpbs Essentially you need to pick an undertone first, the grey second. She gives several examples for each undertone. Pick the undertone the corresponds with the majority of your fixed elements -- tile wood countertops fireplaces and general light exposure north south east west etc. Behr Paint gets a bad rap but it's actually pretty amazing. They use way more pigments then SW and BM. they have four bases instead of two. That works for us anyway. but I guess you can figure out your undertone from this article and then go look at the Sherwin-Williams strips. look at the darkest end of a strep and it will give you an idea of the undertone that will show up in the lighter colors . Otherwise I highly recommend following our Pros recommendation to paint the house white if you must, until you get it decorated. or have the Sherwin Williams color expert come to your house. it's your house, paint it whatever you want. However yes, the common areas are typically painted the same one or two colors depending on the light exposure. additional rooms tend to have their own color schemes....See MoreGood whole-house paint color? Comments (10)Gray Owl looks greenish to me, too...and that's the danger of recommending or looking at colors online, sadly. However, the guidelines can help... For example, the picture above with all the "grays"? To me: Top row are gray, second row are beige with the exception of repose gray which I find gray/green. Third row, I would classify as green with the exception of aloof gray witch, again, looks like repose gray...a gray/green. So it's all about perception and monitors :-/ It sounds to me like you "did" beige and this time out want gray. Nothing wrong with that. It's just paint. So find a gray that's acceptably warm to you, while still looking gray. Off to the paint store with you! Or, find a "white" that leans warmer......See MoreHelp with new construction whole house paint color/ floor!
Comments (19)Here is the DNA on SW Sea Salt. It has an LRV (light reflective value, or how much light does it absorb or reflect.) of 65 so 100 is most reflective. 65 makes it not very reflective, kind of mid range. It has a Hue Family (what is the main color that is most likely to show thru) of Green/Yellow (cool segment) and it has a moderate Chroma which means it has enough black to "gray it down" and helps define how much "color" is in the paint. This one has a fair amount of Chroma, so it is pretty "colorful". So, if you want a more "quiet" backdrop, look to the "off-whites". Some to get samples of and compare are SW Chantilly Lace (pretty white); SW Extra White (not quite as bright but still white); SW Cotton Balls, SW Pure White is nice too. Then you can get some of the more colorful choices like SW Sea Salt, SW Agreeable Gray, SW Accessible Beige, SW Alabaster (more yellow Hue Family) or SW Worldly Gray which has much more color but fairly neutral tending to gray tones. Worldly Gray has an LRV of 57, so it is mid-range light reflective. Not as reflective as SW Sea Salt for example at 65. LRV is measured from 0-100. The closer to 100 the more reflective; the closer to 0 the less reflective and more absorbing of light....See MoreHelp Finalize paint color for a new build, for whole House
Comments (4)There are actually 117 things that I consider when doing a custom color consult for one room. You’re doing a whole house, with far more variables. You have already made a lot of permanent decisions that may, or may not, work with a single color. You’re actually asking a lot of one paint color here, unless you had it in mind all along with the rest of the selections.A single paint color won’t weave disparate elements together into a whole cloth. Most likely, a coordinated whole palette that has different major and minor colors for the home as a whole will be the solution. That may or may not include a single paint color for the whole. I’d suggest working with a designer for a color consult. Youneill need samples of everything you r chosen so far for permanent finishes, to start with. Then you’ll get into lighting, which ways the windows face, the views from outside to inside and inside to outside. And all the rest of the 117 points, magnified by X. Good luck!...See Morepandang81
