I'd take a trip to a fabric store and hunt up some large graphic fabrics to stretch over some stretcher bars. That would add in some badly needed color and let you scale the size appropriately to the space. Your accessories are too small and even though there aren't many, appear cluttered because they are the wrong scale. You need LARGE scale object. Work on your craft skills and do a giant paper mache vase to go with the fabric panels. Maybe a large sculpture. Nothing under 24" in height needs to go up there. And you don't need a lot of items to make a big impact when you use large scale objects.

That's really a nice room. So much to love about it, including the windows we can't see on the other walls. I agree with colourhappy's point about negative space, and also with those who feel for other reasons that nothing is needed in the high spaces. The first and third photos posted by Rebeccamom123 illustrate keeping attention down in the levels people occupy. But those rooms benefit from a unified upper line defined by the architecture that you currently don't have. Rebeccamom123's middle photo shows wonderfully that that isn't the only way to a beautiful space, but this design is far more complex and required some talent. And I think yours also requires a little talent and training to make it look good. That TV placement may be necessary, but to me it creates a really significant visual problem. Since you're adding a mantle, etc., perhaps consider hiring a good designer to pull it all together? For instance, just because the TV support and lines come out at that point doesn't mean the TV itself couldn't be moved down (and sideways?) to a better position, adding architectural detail to disguise as needed. (Btw, strictly in the interest of feedback, one of those corner side walls looks big enough for your TV, or next size down, and I'd almost certainly have put it there. If it needs to be on the end wall to be seen from the dining and/or kitchen areas, and a TV in the kitchen's out of the question, of course that's the place.)

I'm surprised by how hard on you many of these answers are. I see a lot of kitchens and yours is in the top 90 percent of being truly nice. Look at the portfolios of those who comment so you get a sense of where the advice is coming from. I love color but honestly I love your white and gray kitchen, it has great massing and overall very good design decisions. Here's my thoughts - for you it's all about accessories. You have too many small things on the counter tops. Your kitchen is so nice it is worthy of some very nice accessories. Spend some money on them - it will pay off. Consider scale to not have so many tiny items. Also I would very carefully add color. Vey carefully! Your kitchen is so sophisticated I would consider a plum or dark plum or a soft mauve as the accent color. A grayed out color. I do not see bright yellow, orange, red or blue - will be garish. I would also blend in copper and natural woven materials like wood, baskets materials with some stainless. This is the trick to getting more interest in your kitchen so the accessories compliment the look and feel. Think a big object with a medium and small one or with two mediums ones grouped on the counter in a few places. You also need a large scaled low bowl for the island in a tarnished metal or mauve ceramic would be beautiful. As to the top of you cabinets, here's the way you should look at it - you have a great opportunity for some statement pieces! I love the spaces above the cabinets - they look intentionally designed as such begging for something special and notable. Not bright garish color statements. I see large scaled antique/vintage pieces. Objects that have the beauty of time. Interesting objects that don't scream but are so beautiful as to notice and love them. Think Sonoma and Soho inspired. Some large vintage farm items would be great. One on one side of the hood and one on the other. Or one big with a smaller in front to the side. Go tall - really fill up the space. Go two thirds high or perhaps three quarters. You do not need the vase to the right. Not enough empty space to need filling. It's all about what the eye feels is missing or feels is right. Thank you everyone! Sorry it took me a while to get back to all these great suggestions. My house has a craftsman vibe downstairs. The entire kitchen is maple wood and there is wood flooring and maple wood build in cabinets. There is a fireplace there with bluestone. That’s why I wanted to pick up blue tones. I want to make changes in the kitchen and living room. @Sableincal, i like the table idea but I could see my little ones climbing and toppling it over. @grapefruit thank you! I do love the door and the idea of replacing the tile with wood. @Beth I am absolutely in love with that white chandelier you posted and the entire foyer in the picture you posted. The rug color is on point with my wall color and space. I like the wall panels also. I’m not so into plants but I could see how it would bring beauty to my space. @queenmargo, yes the trunk needs to go. It’s such a strange little cove. Best to not bring attention it it. @Design Interior South, the outside definitely does not flow with the inside. The exterior is a light grey with white windows as you see. Inside has this yellow creme tone paint with a lot of maple wood (kitchen, maple, living room maple built in, floors in living room wood, natural wood French doors in kitchen) maple wood furnishings in the mud room and master bedroom. No exposed beams and all trimming are while. I love that oversized blue chair you put in there and the gorgeous multi color blue rug. The wall art is very nice too as is the chest to the right of the picture. Love the darker chair also and the round table you suggested. Thank you! @ginatay123, a multi tier chandelier sounds nice. Thank you for the advice. My husband loves the craftsman vibe we have in the house but I keep wanting to change some of that to reflect the outside of the house. I like traditional with a touch of farmhouse and I do like some craftsman pieces but not all out craftsman but of course the house needs to tie in and flow together. Thank you for the advice on where to find and search for chandeliers. @lynartist I’ll look into the height for the next one. I like the two tier chandeliers you suggested also. The door is definitely the showpiece there as you said. It’s hard for me to pick more furniture for that area because I don’t want any more natural wood there or dark pieces so I’m thinking light and white but not sure if it will work with the craftsman door and all the other maple wood I have in my home.
