Curb Appeal Help Needed!
Comments (13)Removing the arches, considering the brickwork, would be costly and maybe even difficult to match (with new brick). I didn't even notice the arched windows. Anyway, if you did shutters, you would just stop at the top of the rectangular part of the window. But, again, it would be really strange-looking over on the right side there, where the shutters would be over that horizontal brick trim on the edges of the house. PS--My husband and I couldn't decide about shutters, so I "made" some, out of construction paper close to the color I was considering and we tacked them up to see how they would look. This will be difficult, considering tape won't stick to the brick, but where there is a will...Or--you could photoshop a photo of the house?...See MoreCurb appeal help needed

Comments (49)Have you talked to professional masonry person re: fixing the discrepancy in color of brick? Its the combination of the natural raw brick texture with that wonderful burnt wood that looks so fantastic - the two materials belong together. Brick painted with acrylic even if a similar color, is not going to have that same synergistic effect with the wood. Painted brick will look flat and and dull since it wont have the slight color variations of real brick. The texture will be that of brick encased in plastic instead of rough natural texture of brick. And btw, latex or acrylic paint - any paint that forms a film on the surface and doesn't allow water vapor to freely pass through is a mistake cos moisture gets trapped behind the film and long term damages the brick. If you have to paint then choose mineral paint. Since its made with real mineral pigments instead of chemical colorants Ive been told the color has more richness and depth and you can get it in different "weights" - some are thinner so that more of the texture or roughness would show through. Romabio and Limeworks USA both have fantastic customer service - can do custom color if you send them a brick or a good picture....See MoreCurb appeal help needed for this 1990s Tudor to get some charm
Comments (7)How about painting the white a Tudor beige or taupe? Doug, can you tweak your design to show what that would look like? Achieving the look you're after does require replacing white window and doir fesmes with dark. This may be tricky to do if they’re vinyl which shouldnt be painted. Re landscaping, agree that thd hedge is misplaced but it does look like you have some large mature evergreens elsewhere that may well fit your scheme (not as foundation plants - just pointing out that you seem to have some good material to work with. even the hedge plants may work in s different location.)...See MoreKara D
