Cleaning kitchen floor grout lines
Comments (8)The easiest way to clean grout is with a steamer as mentioned. Just use it the same way you would to steam clean a tile floor. If the steamer doesn't do the job by itself then you most likely have stains in the grout. Visit your local cleaning supply company and explain the situation to them. They should have a product on hand that can be used to clean grout. If that type of cleaning doesn't work then the only option is to remove the grout and re-grout again. In any case, whether new grout or newly cleaned grout, you should seal the grout once a year to keep the dirt and food off the grout. This will keep it from staining again. Once again your local cleaning supply company will have what you need on hand. This once a year sealing step will preserve your grout like new for many years. Grout though very hard to withstand walking on it is still a porous material that will absorb food and dirt. When this happens the grout can be discolored beyond repair. Comments (28)Any resolution on what's causing the dark lines, or how to address them? I am having a similar issue on a shower wall tile re-grout. Most of the white non-sanded grout came out fine, but in a few spots it appears that "something from below" leached into the white grout causing it to become grey and dark in spots.... and it occured quickly within the first 3- 6 hours that the grout was drying. In a few spots, it became rust color, as if the red ceramic base of the glazed tile was bleeding into the grout. Any thoughts?...See MoreNew Blanco Silgranite Metallic Gray Sink has wavy stains, water lines
Comments (18)Thank you so much for this thread. I also just got a Blanco metallic grey sink and it had the exact same spots as you describe. I tried 1) paste of water and baking soda and scrub with a sponge for 5 min, 2) thick application of Dawn liquid dish soap, let it sit for 5 min, then scrub with a sponge for 5 min, 3) Bar Keepers Friend cleaning powder, 4) BlancoClean Daily+ Sink Cleaner, applied thick layer and let it sit for 7 min, then scrub. None of this worked. I contacted the manufacturer and here's what they suggested. -------------- Silgranit sinks are non-porous and are a solid color all the way through and therefore stains are only on the surface and all food grade stains can be removed. I would suggest the below two methods: Fill the sink with very hot water and adding 2-3 cups of white vinegar. Once the water has cooled, drain and you can then use a Scotch Brite pad or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and give it a little scrub with a baking soda and water paste. Once the sink is clean you can apply a thin layer of mineral oil, and this will usually rejuvenate the look of the Silgranit. Dishwasher Tablets- Fill sink with HOT water into the bowl, dissolve a tablet overnight, and then scrub with scotch-Brite nylon pad and then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water. Apply a thin coat of mineral oil to restore the sheen. -------------- For me, suggestion #1 worked beautifully. However, I think the key was the thin layer of mineral oil. Reading this thread, and seeing that others tried various types of oil, gave the confidence to try it. I'm glad I did!...See MoreGrout Color/Grout Line Size
Comments (3)Yep, bamboo does not do well in humidity. That is why I don't sell or install it here in central Texas. To get a true color with grout that is mixed with water make sure the installer is using distilled water. Tap water will have minerals within it. It's the minerals in water that rise to the surface of the grout when it is curing that changes the appearance of the grout color. Also, if too much water is used during the mixing stages of the grout, it can dilute the coloring. Another thing that can dilute the coloring is when the installer is cleaning the tile of grout, if too much water is on his sponge he can pull color pigment from the grout discoloring it to a lighter shade. Non rectified tiles, the smallest recommended grout line is 3/16"....See MoreSJ McCarthy
